Two narratives have shaped how investors think about Bitcoin’s place in the macro landscape. Both feel intuitive. Both get repeated as if they were settled. Neither has been seriously tested in the open.

Legend One: “Bitcoin is digital gold.”

The claim says BTC and Gold are substitutes — capital rotates between them based on relative attractiveness, both serve as inflation hedges, both protect against currency debasement. If this were true, the spread between the two would be statistically mean-reverting. When Gold rallies, BTC should see outflows. When BTC rallies, Gold should consolidate. The substitution dynamic should produce a stationary relationship.

Legend Two: “Bitcoin leads the Nasdaq.”

The claim says BTC moves first and tech equities follow — crypto-native sentiment, established over the 24/7 weekend tape, feeds into institutional risk-on positioning when traditional markets reopen. If this were true, we should see a measurable lead-lag where BTC moves precede NDX moves by a stable window of trading days.

(2) The verdict

Both legends are partially true. Both are partially false. The honest answer requires statistical testing — and the test reveals something more interesting than either yes or no.

The methodology is rolling-window cointegration analysis. For each trailing 180-trading-day period from 2018 to today, we test whether the spread between the two assets is statistically stationary. The output is not a single answer. It is a time series of regime classifications.

What the data shows: both relationships oscillate. BTC and Gold are coupled in some periods and decoupled in others. BTC leads NDX in some windows and trades on its own crypto-native dynamics in other windows.

The coupling is real when it operates. The legend fails when applied as a constant.

This is the methodologically honest framing: cointegration is a regime, not a state. Markets transition between phases where statistical relationships hold and phases where they break. The value is in detecting which mode we are in, not in declaring permanent truths.

A 2x2 macro quadrant

Combined, the two regimes produce a 2x2 macro-quadrant matrix with four distinct modes — from “Bull Risk-On” (both relationships operating) to “Structural Stress” (both broken). Each quadrant carries a specific macro interpretation, and the current quadrant is itself a real-time read on which analytical frameworks apply right now and which do not.

(1) Verdict — One Line

🟡 Transitional. The bottom held, the descending channel broke, and momentum is turning. None of that is enough yet. The regression channel re-entry is pending, two resistances are unresolved, and the Stochastic buy signal is regime-ambiguous. This week resolves the first gate. The second tells us whether the larger structure is constructive or whether the bounce was reflex.

(2) Macro Backdrop — The War-Asset Dispatch

In every major geopolitical conflict of the past fifty years, gold absorbed the safe-haven bid. In this conflict, gold has not.

Since the outbreak of the US-Iran war, Bitcoin has traded positively. Gold has not benefited. That is the most important macro fact of the current regime, and it is counterintuitive enough to be worth stating plainly. Whatever the underlying mechanism — sanctions-era capital flight, dollar-substitute demand, or a reflexive crypto-treasury rotation — Bitcoin is functioning as the war asset of this conflict.

This is not just a price observation. It is a regime question. Two hypotheses:

H1 — The relationship is intact, the spread is stretched. BTC and gold remain cointegrated as alternative store-of-value pairs. The current divergence is an unusually wide deviation from a stationary process, and mean reversion will eventually close it. The direction of the close matters: gold catches up (BTC bull case unaffected), or BTC reverts down (BTC bull case loses a pillar).

H2 — The relationship has broken, the war-asset role has migrated. What we are watching is not a stretched spread but a structural re-rating. Gold no longer captures the geopolitical bid as it used to. Bitcoin does.

This question is testable against the full Closelook Cointegration Lab framework, and we will run it formally as part of next Sunday’s regular edition. For this week’s purposes, the dispatch is sufficient: the war is bullish for BTC and not bullish for gold, and that is unusual enough to be the backdrop against which everything else is read.

(3) The Setup — What The Chart Says

From the November 2025 ATH at 126,516, Bitcoin executed a 50.8% peak-to-trough decline, bottoming at 62,140 — almost exactly the 61.8% Golden Retracement at 57,890. From there, a 25% rally to the current price.

Three things have happened on the way back up. Two are positive, one is unfinished.

Positive — the steep descending channel is broken. The channel that capped every prior bounce attempt during the five-month decline has been left behind. This is the first genuine structural positive on the chart since the ATH.

Positive — the bottom is holding. A moderately steep rising trend channel can be drawn off the 62,140 low. Speculative — drawn ad hoc — but the lower boundary has been respected on every test. The 50% Fibonacci retracement at 70,994 has been reclaimed and is being defended.

Unfinished — the larger regression channel has not been re-entered. Bitcoin is trying to climb back into the 180-period linear regression channel from below, but has not yet succeeded. Until that re-entry happens, the broader structure remains technically bearish. This is the residual bear evidence, and it is real.

Stochastic flashing buy signal — but ambiguous in the current regime. The cross from oversold is technically constructive, but Stochastic buy signals behave differently across different regimes. In downtrends, they produce countertrend bounces that fail. In uptrends, they produce continuation. Until the larger structure resolves, the indicator does not know which pattern it belongs to. Treat as a tiebreaker, not a primary input.

(4) The Two-Step Test

Two resistance levels stand directly overhead, separated by less than 3%. Each has a distinct meaning.

R1 — 78,000 — Make-or-Break

Heavy resistance at the current price. Either Bitcoin clears this level cleanly within the next 1–2 sessions, or the next move is back down. This is microstructure: supply that defended on the way down, now tested on the way up. Make-or-break this week.

R2 — 80,000 — The Wave-1 Reclaim

The low established during the first leg of the decline from the 126,516 ATH — the Wave-1 low. Until Bitcoin reclaims this level on a closing basis, the larger move remains structurally consistent with an unfinished five-wave decline. Under that count, the current bounce is a Wave 4 corrective rally, and a Wave 5 lower is still ahead.

Reclaiming 80,000 is the level that invalidates the cleanest impulsive bear count. It is the binary Elliott event of the next five sessions. Microstructure says R1. Structure says R2. Both must clear.

(5) The Question

Can Bitcoin clear 78,000 and 80,000 within five sessions, with daily closes above each, and no daily close below 75,000?

The dual-level structure is deliberate. Clearing R1 alone is microstructure noise — it gets BTC into a no-man’s land between two resistances. Clearing R2 is the structural event.

• Window: Monday, April 27 – Friday,y May 1, 2026

• Pass: At least one daily close > 80,000 and no daily close < 75,000 → bear-impulse count invalidated, regression channel re-entry in reach

• Fail: Any daily close < 75,000 → speculative trend channel breaks, retest of 70,994 / 62,140 in play

• Ambiguous: Trades 75,000–80,000 without resolution → microstructure inconclusive, macro arbitrates

(6) Three Scenarios

Scenario A · Pass — Wave-1 Reclaimed At least one daily close > 80,000. No close < 75,000. Speculative trend channel holds, descending channel break confirmed, regression channel re-entry becomes the next test. The 62,140 low was structural, and buyers showed up at the level that mattered. Bear-count invalidated. Path opens toward 84,097 (38.2% Fib confluence) and then the regression channel mid-line over 4–8 weeks.

Scenario B · Fail — Bounce Rejected Any daily close < 75,000. R1 acted as resistance, not support. The bounce was a Wave-4 corrective rally inside an unfinished impulse, and Wave 5 is alive. 70,994 is the first downside target; 62,140 is the structural retest; loss of 62,140 opens 57,890. The speculative trend channel breaks, which is what speculative channels do when the underlying read was wrong.

Scenario C · Ambiguous — Trapped Between Resistances Trades 75,000–80,000, no decisive break. The speculative channel holds the bottom, but the upside confirmation is missing. Macro arbitrates from here — DXY direction, US-Iran war news flow, ETF flows, and the BTC/Gold spread behavior. The Wave count remains unresolved. Defer to the regular nine-dimensional Weekly Signal on May 3.

(7) Why This Test Matters Beyond Bitcoin

Bitcoin is the cleanest live test of the global risk-on / risk-off binary. No earnings noise, no geographic exposure, no sector rotation — pure liquidity-and-sentiment beta, with the war-asset overlay as a unique current signature.

This is the second high-quality bottom test in three weeks. Software resolved on April 25 in the SaaS Litmus Test. Bitcoin resolves on May 1. Two for two on Pass = the April risk-on tape is real and breadth-confirmed across two of the highest-beta liquid assets. One for two = mixed, and the composite Weekly Signal goes neutral. Zero for two = the early-2026 narrative needs a serious rewrite.

The cointegration question runs in parallel and provides the macro tiebreaker. R2 reclaim plus H2-confirming spread behavior gives the cleanest possible Scenario A — microstructure win and structural re-rating in the same week. R1 rejection plus H1-with-BTC-mean-reverting-down is the cleanest Scenario B confirmation.

(8) Decision Tree

No positioning before Wednesday's close. First two sessions of any microstructure test produce noise that mimics signal. BTC weekend-to-Monday gaps and Asia-session moves can distort the daily-close picture early in the week.

By Wednesday close, Scenario A tracking (one close > 78,000, no close < 75,000): consider initial 0.25 pp portfolio weight in IBIT. Scale to 0.5 pp only on a Friday close > 80,000. No leveraged products. No MSTR. No single-name alts. The reflexivity risk is too high while the regression channel re-entry is pending.

By Wednesday close, Scenario B tracking (any close < 75,000): stay flat. Do not short. Stoch is mid-range, not extended — squeeze risk asymmetric. Wait for a 62,140 retest to re-evaluate.

By Friday close, Scenario C still ambiguous: defer to the regular Weekly Signal on May 3.

(9) What Comes After

Five sessions resolve the first two resistance levels. They do not yet resolve the regression channel re-entry — that test is roughly 4–6 weeks out even in the most constructive Scenario A path. A Pass verdict opens the runway; it does not complete the journey.

The Wave-count question is binary: 80,000 reclaim or not. If reclaimed, the cleanest impulsive bear count from 126,516 is invalidated and the larger structure is at minimum corrective, possibly transitional. If rejected, the impulse is alive, Wave 5 lower remains the technical base case, and the cycle thesis needs serious revision.

The macro overlay deserves continued attention as a control variable. As long as Bitcoin trades positively while gold does not benefit from the US-Iran war, the war-asset rotation is intact and is providing a non-trivial bid. If that dynamic flips — gold catches up, BTC stalls — the macro tailwind weakens and Scenario A loses one of its support pillars. New all-time highs on S&P, Nasdaq-100, and Nasdaq Composite. SOXX printed an 18-session winning streak — a record since the ETF’s 2001 inception. ServiceNow lost 17.75% in one day on a headline beat — but IGV at the index level held flat on the week.

The damage was idiosyncratic. The earnings cluster of April 27 to May 1 delivers the structural verdict.

The numbers above set the structural read at a glance. The headline: semis vertical (SOXX +11.04%, SMH +9.11%), Rubin Build-Out 100 extending its YTD lead at +65% (EW and MW), software at the index level held flat (IGV +0.14%) despite NOW and IBM cracking individually. The chart below shows where the Nasdaq-100 sits on the long-term log channel.

The four timeframes capture the same trend at four resolutions. The next table summarises the indicator readings on the weekly view.

The macro indicator picture is constructive. The diagnostic read shifts when we cut the index by composition rather than by time — the chart below decomposes QQQ into Tech vs. Ex-Tech and Top-20 US stocks (not confined to the Nasdaq-100) vs. Tail-70 to show exactly what is driving the index this week.

What Happened

The major US index proxies closed the week at fresh territory. S&P 500 at 7,165.08 Friday, up +0.55% on the week to a fresh all-time high. Nasdaq-100 (NDX) at 27,303.67, up +2.37% on the week — QQQ tracked it at 663.88, +2.32% on the week from the prior Friday’s 648.85.

The broader Nasdaq Composite at 24,836.60, +1.50% on the week. Dow Jones at 49,230.71 was the lone diverger, finishing −0.41% on the week. IWM (Russell 2000 ETF) at 276.65 added +0.32% on the week — the broader Russell 2000 index closed at 2,787.00. VIX rose 7.04% on the week to 18.71 — volatility creeping back from the Hormuz-driven low but still historically benign.

The headline within the headline was the semiconductor extension. SMH closed at 506.44, +9.11% on the week. SOXX closed at 461.60, +11.04% on the week — SOXX printing its 18th consecutive up day on Friday, the longest streak in the ETF’s history since its 2001 inception. Per a NYSE research note circulated mid-week, semiconductors now account for ~15.5% of the S&P 500’s market-cap weight and have contributed roughly 4.9 percentage points of the index’s 12.8% rally since March 30 — about 40% of the entire move.

Two single-name prints framed the week. Intel surged +20.50% on a beat-and-raise, finally closing above its dot-com 2000 high — a 26-year price ceiling, finally cleared. Nvidia +3.27% on the week to retake the $5 trillion market cap mark on Friday’s session.

And then there was the other side of the tape. ServiceNow lost 17.75% on Wednesday, on a headline beat. Revenue beat consensus, cRPO up 25% YoY, the Now Assist ACV target raised from $1.0B to $1.5B. The market cap fell from $107B to $87.8B in a single session—roughly $20 billion evaporated.

IBM lost 6% the same day, also on a revenue and EPS beat with raised software guidance. Two beat-and-lose prints on the same day are not a coincidence. They are a market that is repricing a structural equation in real time.

The diagnostic feature: IGV closed Friday at $85.20, essentially flat on the week (+0.14%). The two single-name beats-and-losses cracked NOW (W/W −6.71% to $90.17) and IBM (W/W −8.48% to $231.98) — but the broader software complex held. The Friday +5% bounce on NOW alone reversed most of the week’s mid-week damage at the index level.

The IGV/QQQ ratio tested the 0.1255 trigger zone mid-week and recovered to close the week at 0.1284, above the line. The damage was idiosyncratic, not sector-wide. The structural hold level at $74.62 sits more than $10 below the current IGV close. Software did not crack — two specific names did, and the rest of the cohort absorbed it.

Two Friday signals tilt encouraging. NOW closed Friday at +5% from the Wednesday capitulation low — early evidence that the bad news may already be priced in. SAP, Europe’s enterprise software bellwether, printed positive earnings on Friday and held its bid. Neither resolves the verdict. Both are the first data points in the direction of a stabilization rather than a continuation lower.

The earnings cluster of April 27 through May 1 will deliver the resolving signal.

That contrast is not a contradiction. It is the rotation framework working — and the question of whether the software bottom is in remains open through Friday.

Six of the top ten weekly winners across the entire S&P 500 are Rubin Build-Out 100 constituents. AMD, TXN, INTC, ON, MCHP, NXPI — semiconductors dominating the broad-index single-name leaderboard. The within-tech rotation thesis is visible at the SP500 level, not only inside the functional index.

Week Losers

The defense sector cracked. NOC and LMT both down >13% on the week. Coverage centered on election-cycle de-rating risk is being priced into the sector. Notably absent from the SP500 winners list are defense names that dominated in 2025 — a regime change worth watching.

Note: NOW (−6.71% W/W to $90.17) and IBM (−8.48% W/W to $231.98) sit just outside the top-10 losers despite their Wednesday capitulation moves. The Friday +5% recovery on NOW pulled it back from the deepest weekly drawdown.

Underneath them, the AI hardware supply chain extends across the full build-out — The bull is wider than NVDA and INTC.

The Thesis — Silicon Leadership, Five Layers Deep

The semiconductor leadership that has carried this bull market since 2023 is broader than the headline names. The Rubin Build-Out 100 is up roughly 65% YTD on equal weight, ~70% on momentum weight — against Nasdaq ~6%. A 10× spread. That is not a quirk of construction. It is the framework that is working: leadership is focused on the AI hardware build-out, but distributed across the entire supply chain.

Inside the index this year and week:

The Software Question — Verdict Pending

The April 19 Weekly Signal Special set up a litmus test for the most-attacked names in software. The setup ran exactly as forecast: IGV bounced double-digit off the March low — the expected revert-to-mean from oversold extremes. The bounce arrived on schedule, played out on schedule, and reached the levels where the second test would begin.

Then news arrived. Anthropic’s Claude Design launch as the proximate stress test for creative tools SaaS—ServiceNow’s earnings on Wednesday. The verdict on the bounce came mid-week: ServiceNow lost $20 billion of market cap in a single session — on a headline beat. IBM lost 6% on the same day, also on a beat.

Both prints reflected a market that has reached a working hypothesis on enterprise SaaS economics in the AI era: legacy decay + insufficient AI uplift + hybrid-instead-of-outcome monetization = premium multiple no longer defensible. The bridge math is in Friday’s Daily Pulse.

The earnings cluster of April 27 through May 1 carries the resolving signal—Microsoft on Tuesday with the Azure AI growth print. Alphabet, Meta, and Amazon are following. ServiceNow Analyst Day on May 4. Each one is a vote on whether the bridge math applies broadly across enterprise SaaS or stays idiosyncratic to NOW. Monday’s analyst reactions to the NOW/IBM prints will set the early tone — institutional desks return from the weekend with their re-rating, and the first hour of Monday’s tape is the leading indicator for the week.

The Frame — Within-Tech, Not Out of Tech

Two divergent tapes — silicon expanding across layers, software facing a verdict — are not a contradiction. They are the same thing observed from two angles. Both are the ninth within-tech rotation since the October 2022 low.

The pattern is documented and repeated: 2023 SVB, 2023 rate scare, 2024 sticky CPI, 2024 yen carry unwind, 2024 AI capex bubble wave one, January 2025 DeepSeek, March 2025 Liberation Day, summer 2025 AI capex bubble wave two, Q1 2026 equal-weight rotation. Every time, the tech selling concentrated in the previous cycle’s leaders while capital migrated to the next. Every time, the call for rotation OUT of tech was actually rotation WITHIN tech. This week is data point number nine. Software-as-a-service is the previous cycle’s leadership; AI hardware build-out is the next.

The Tech Thematic split is the diagnostic feature of the week — but not in the direction the headline narrative suggests. SOXX +11.04%, SMH +9.11%, IGV +0.14%. Software at the index level held flat; ARKK (- 3.45%) and CLOU (+0.10%) bracket the broader risk-software complex. CIBR +1.14% (Cybersecurity) and AIQ +1.92% (Broad AI) — both held positive.

The narrative “software cracked” is technically wrong at the index level. What cracked were two specific names: NOW −6.71% W/W and IBM −8.48% W/W. The AI trade extended into infrastructure (semis vertical) and held its software base at the index level.

Seasonality Setup

The seasonal map matches every other framework on the table. April 2026 is on track to print one of the strongest Aprils in the QTEC monthly history — currently around +18.54% month-to-date through April 23, the best April on record.

May seasonality thins (44% hit rate, average return barely positive). June is a coin flip. July is the destination — 4.1% average, 94% hit rate, the strongest seasonal window QQQ sees all year.

The regime reads Risk-On, with leadership concentrated in semiconductors and distributed across five build-out layers. Headline indices held or extended; thematics narrowed back into AI infrastructure but expanded within it. Breadth at the index level participated but did not lead; breadth inside the AI hardware supply chain was the diagnostic feature of the week.

Directional flow within the Rubin universe shows a continued handoff: Power Semis confirming the Mid-Ramp layer joining; Memory and Foundry stabilizing after weeks of distribution; Design heating up, signaling the next chip cycle is loading. This is the textbook signature of a within-tech rotation in progress, not a regime change at the index level.

Buildout Timeline — which stage leads the cycle?

The handoff phase continues. Design (Stage 1) heating signals the next chip cycle is loading — ARM, EDA names, and the architects of post-Rubin generations. Fabless / Foundry / Memory cooling Δ21 confirms that the current cycle is shipping and that those positions are rotating out — which aligns with the Hopper-era Sunset reading on the Generation Rotation Framework. Interconnect heating at the tail confirms back-end names are seeing the output flow.

The read pattern is consistent: the cycle leads the price. WDesignesign — if ARM and EDA names keep accelerating over the next 2-3 weeks while Memory and Foundry stabilize, the next leg is loaded 6-9 months ahead of the visible price move. That is the Δ21 signal in full operation.

(4) The Outlook

The Outlook rests on a Mag-7 earnings cluster across three days, the FOMC, and the ServiceNow Analyst Day. GOOGL Tuesday AMC. MSFT, META, AMZN, Wednesday AMC. AAPL Thursday AMC. FOMC Wednesday with SEP and Powell presser. ServiceNow Analyst Da,y May 4. Each one resolves a specific question.

Each one can extend, confirm, or invalidate the within-tech rotation read, and each one feeds into the verdict on the software bottom.

Forward Reads — Indices, Sectors, Thematics

QQQ leads SPY into next week on the Microsoft print. The 1W spread — XLK +3.80% vs the broad index — confirms tech is absorbing rotation dollars at the megacap level. IWM lags. Small-caps have no sector tailwind, no thematic catalyst, and the relative-strength story has not turned in their favor since the Q1 head-fake.

The index to watch is QQQ, which pulls away from SPY by 200+ basis points on any continuation day, driven by Mag-7 earnings.

Sector rotation tilts further into growth and away from defensives. XLK and XLY remain the twin engines into earnings. XLE caught the oil-rebound bid this week — sustainable only if the Hormuz situation re-escalates; otherwise, it means reversion to the mean. XLF holds its bid but trails meaningfully. Watch for XLC to accelerate on the Alphabet and Meta prints — Communication Services has been a base-building theme for three weeks, and platform-scale AI monetization needs a fundamental confirmation moment.

Thematic leadership has narrowed. SMH and SOXX have decoupled from IGV. Last week, these traded as one cohort; this week, they diverge by 10+ percentage points. The structural read is unchanged — AI infrastructure leads, software is on test. AIQ and CIBR are the names with 1M backing in the AI complex; their hold or break this week is the primary signal for the orchestration layer.

The Closelook indices to track this week. AW25 Agentic Winners is the index whose composition gets directly tested by next week’s Mag-7 earnings cluster. A held NOW $81.24 / IGV $74.62 floor — discussed below — keeps the AW25 setup alive for selective adds. A break of either kills it. The probabilistic case tilts toward the hold given Friday’s NOW +5% recovery and the SAP positive print, plus the multiple compression already 85-90% complete and NOW now trading below the S&P P/E for the first time in its post-IPO history. But the probabilistic case is a tilt, not a verdict. Monday’s tape and Tuesday’s Microsoft print are the first tests.

NOW closed Friday at $90.17 (already +5% off the Wednesday capitulation). A Monday print above $95 confirms the priced-in case advancing. A break below $81.24 reactivates the SaaSpocalypse continuation.

Tuesday April 28 AMC: Alphabet (GOOGL). The platform-scale AI monetization print. Search ad revenue, YouTube ad growth, and Cloud (GCP) AI capex commentary are the three diagnostic lines.

Wednesday April 29 — the day: MSFT, META, AMZN all report after the bell on the same evening — three Mag-7 prints in 90 minutes. Microsoft’s Azure AI growth print is the single most diagnostic line: 35%+ confirms the capex story and extends the AI infrastructure runway; below 30% signals enterprise AI adoption running slower than the semiconductor leadership thesis assumes. Meta on ad-engine AI uplift. Amazon on AWS infrastructure demand. Three-of-three confirming capex acceleration ratifies the within-tech rotation thesis structurally.

Wednesday April 29: FOMC rate decision (3:00 PM ET) + SEP dot-plot release + Powell press conference (3:30 PM ET). Hold expected at 3.75%; the press conference framing is the macro pivot of the quarter.

Thursday, April 30: AAPL AMC + GDP Q1 advance (consensus +2.1%) + Core PCE Mar (consensus 3.1% YoY) + Chicago PMI + initial claims + BoJ rate decision overnight. The single most data-dense day of the macro calendar this quarter — and the reaction to whichever Mag-7 surprised the night before will compound through these prints.

Sunday,y May 4: ServiceNow Analyst Day. Now, an Assist ACV walk-back from $1.5B to $1.0B would confirm that the bridge math the market priced in this week was correct — the AI uplift compensating term collapses, and the SaaSpocalypse case becomes the consensus. Reaffirmation or upward revision would break the bridge math the market just enforced and reset the entire enterprise SaaS multiple back toward pre-Wednesday levels.

Continuing trigger: Rubin Build-Out 100 W/W flipping negative while QQQ continues higher. The within-tech rotation thesis breaks. Capital is leaving the AI infrastructure layer rather than rotating between its sub-sectors. Reduce thematic exposure. The bear case for the entire generation rotation framework would be on the table.

(5) What May Lie Ahead: Macro Setup

Macro setup for next week: the Fed meeting on Wednesday is the structural event of the quarter; the Thursday data cluster (GDP Q1, Core PCE, BoJ overnight, AAPL AMC) is the most data-dense day of the calendar. Money Temperature drifts toward the gross-reduction trigger but has not yet reached it.

Central Bank Pulse

Fed: The Wednesday, April 29 FOMC meeting is the macro event of the quarter — rate decision, SEP dot-plot update, and Powell press conference all in a single afternoon. Market pricing assumes a hold at 3.75%; the question is (a) the dot-plot 2026 median — does the SEP imply two cuts still, or fewer? — and (b) Powell’s press conference framing on disinflation progress. Two crosscurrents: Q1 earnings beat rate (~28% reported, 80%+ beating both EPS and revenue) and resilient retail sales argue against a dovish pivot. Consumer sentiment at 49.8 — the lowest reading on record, below GFC, COVID, and post-Russia-invasion lows — argues for one. Inflation expectations for the year ahead remain elevated at 4.7%. Thursday’s Core PCE +3.1% YoY consensus (a 10bp uptick) and PCE +3.3% YoY (a 50bp uptick) hit the day after the FOMC — making the press-conference framing especially consequential. Fed nominee Kevin Warsh’s confirmation testimony was viewed as more hawkish than expected, which has begun to seep into the rates curve. BoJ: The Bank of Japan policy meeting is also next week — Thursday, April 30, the morning JST session, with Outlook Report on the same day. Rate-hike expectations have continued to fade in recent weeks. Still, the Outlook Report is the more material item — any hawkish revision would amplify yen-carry-unwind risk on a day already crowded with FOMC follow-through, GDP, Core PCE, and AAPL earnings.

PBoC: China’s Q1 GDP at 5.0% beat expectations. The PBoC’s accommodative stance continues without fresh stimulus. China-listed equities (MCHI) traded mixed on the week, sensitive to the dollar move and to the technology-export-control narrative.

The dollar-yield-oil triangle is the pivot for cross-asset positioning. Last week’s risk-on impulse was anchored on a weakening dollar, falling oil, and stable yields. This week’s sector dispersion was anchored on a firming dollar (UUP +0.44% W/W), rebounding oil (USO +14.10% W/W, a near-complete round-trip of the prior-week's selloff), and modestly higher yields (10Y around 4.30%). Gold also gave back, GLD −2.84% W/W, on the dollar firming. The mechanism is well-understood; the resolution depends on whether the Iran-US peace track resumes after stalling this week.

Hartnett’s note this week recommends curve steepeners, China, consumer cyclicals, and frames the AI-infrastructure trade as the dominant US risk-on expression. The AI-infrastructure call aligns directly with the within-tech rotation read — Hartnett identifies the same destination of capital that the Rubin Build-Out captures structurally. The curve-steepener trade presupposes the macro regime supports continued risk appetite, consistent with Money Temperature in the Transition zone rather than Hot. Consumer cyclicals and China are dollar-weakening trades; they sit a step ahead of this week’s price action. They will work when the dollar rolls again. This week’s firming was a pause, not a regime change.

Seasonality

The seasonal calendar (chart shown in Section 3) reinforces the structural read. April 2026 prints +18.54% on QTEC — the best April in the 16-year history. That is one of the largest monthly moves on record, and it happened during a month that the rotation camp had labeled as the moment when “tech leadership is over.” May historically be thin to a coin flip. June is similarly weak. July is the strongest single month of the year for QQQ — average +4.1%, hit rate 94%. August through mid-October enters the seasonal soft window. The structural map for the rest of 2026: a final push higher into summer (sub-5 of larger Wave 3 in the Closelook@Global frame), a sharp setback in late August through mid-October aligning with both seasonality and the historical midterm-year drawdown, and a year-end rally into 2027 from the post-midterm low.

The wave count, the seasonal calendar, and the presidential-cycle pattern all point at the same nine-month roadmap. The current edition is the early stage of that arc.

(6) What May Lie Ahead: Technical Setup

Technical setup: QQQ closed Friday at 663.88, a fresh all-time high. The 4Y log-channel upper band held resistance at 650 last week and was decisively broken this week. The Stochastic remains pinned in the upper range. In a confirmed trend impulse, this is the structural signature, not the warning.

The Technical Reading

QQQ at 663.88 has cleared the 4Y log-channel upper band that capped price last week at ~650. The breakout extended into Friday’s session and held into the close. This is the third impulse of the post-March advance: Wave 1 mid-March breakout from the 520 base, Wave 2 early-April pause at 595-605, Wave 3 the current leg now pressing through the channel ceiling. Invalidation lines: 648 (last week’s prior ATH — a daily close back below would confirm a false breakout); 600 (the 3M consolidation midpoint — close below would argue a deeper retest); 498 (the 4Y log-channel lower band — full structural invalidation).

The setup to watch into next week: a print to 670, followed by rejection back below 658, would activate a 645-650 retest of the breakout level. Sustained price above 670 keeps the structure constructive into the Mag-7 earnings cluster.

Technical Commentary

QQQ at 663.88 has confirmed the breakout above the 4Y channel that capped the price for two weeks. The hold or break at 658-660 on any pullback next week is the primary tactical level — it was upper resistance through Wednesday’s session and now needs to act as support. The reciprocal move requires demand at the prior ceiling, not just the absence of supply. A weekly close above 663.88 — with rising volume — confirms bid conviction into the FOMC. A failure here, with a close below 658, opens a flush toward the 645-650 range where the breakout originated.

The 3M breakout structure at 600 remains the secondary technical floor. A close below that level would end the wave-3 read and argue consolidation into the 580-585 zone. Neither is close at the current 663.88, but a rejection at the upper extension followed by a volume break below 645 would put the 600 test back on the calendar.

Indicator Focus — Why a pinned Stochastic is constructive

The Slow Stochastic (14,3,3) prints in the high range on QQQ weekly, similar to the prior week’s reading. In a confirmed trend impulse, mean-reversion oscillators stay pinned at “overbought” for the entire duration of the move. Every secular uptrend in equity history has looked overbought for most of its duration. The Coppock curve remains rising. ADX remains in a strong-trend reading. The 30W moving average is well below the price and rising. None of these reads are “exit” reads. They are continuation reads in a trending regime.

The diagnostic question is not “is QQQ overbought?” — it is “is this still a trend regime?” The Alignment Check below answers that.

This Week’s Topic: Why Functional Indices

The week the Tech sector sent two opposing signals at once — semiconductors at 18-day record streaks, software in active retest — is the week the case for functional indices became impossible to ignore. A reader holding XLK could not see the rotation. The ETF averaged it away.

The Problem with Broad Sector ETFs

XLK contains NVDA (semis vertical) and NOW (software cracked) in the same basket. IGV runs a different basket again. SMH a third. If you hold any of them, you get one number that averages multiple divergent stories. In a coherent regime — broad risk-on or broad risk-off — that averaging is fine. The single number tracks the dominant signal. In a within-sector rotation, the averaging is destructive: it hides exactly the signal that matters.

This week’s data illustrates the cost. IGV is down 24.7% YTD. QTEC is up roughly 30%. Both are “tech” by the conventional taxonomy. A reader with XLK exposure participates in the latter through NVDA’s weight and absorbs none of the IGV pain — fine. A reader thinking about whether the broader software complex has bottomed sees only “Tech is up X%” and misses the dispersion entirely. The broad ETF is a useful vehicle for ownership. It is a poor analytical instrument in transition phases.

The Functional Index Approach

A functional index does not start with the question “what stocks have a SIC code in this category?” It starts with “what value-creation function are we trying to capture?” — and then assembles the constituents that functionally deliver that value, regardless of which sector or thematic ETF labels them.

This Week as Empirical Proof

The Rubin Build-Out is up roughly 65% YTD on equal weight, ~90% on momentum weight. The Nasdaq-100 is up roughly 6%. A 10-13× spread. That spread is not a quirk of construction. It is the framework working. The Rubin index isolates the AI infrastructure layer. The Nasdaq dilutes the signal with software, consumer, and services exposure. SMH averages across the entire chip complex, including Hopper-era names (Wafer Processing +3% YTD, EDA +16%) and Rubin Early Ramp names (Interconnects +124%, Memory +107%). Rubin separates them.

In a coherent rally where everything moves together, a broad ETF tracks the average,e and that is sufficient. In a rotation phase — Hopper Sunset to Rubin Early Ramp, broad software to narrow orchestration — the broad ETF systematically mispositions. It carries last cycle’s winners and next cycle’s winners in the same basket, weighted by past market cap rather than future capital flow. The functional index disaggregates exactly this distortion.

When the next cycle handoff comes — Rubin Sunset to Feynman Dawn — the same framework will surface that one in real time. Broad ETFs will report it after.

Wednesday April 29 — FOMC + SEP + Powell: A hawkish dot-plot revision (median pulled to fewer-than-two cuts in 2026) or a hawkish press-conference framing on disinflation progress would lift yields, firm the dollar further, and pressure the multiple-expansion piece of the AI infrastructure trade. Base case: hold at 3.75%, balanced tone, dot-plot keeping two cuts in play.

Thursday, April 30 — the data day: GDP Q1 advance (consensus +2.1% vs +0.5% prior) + Core PCE Mar (consensus 3.1% YoY, +10bp) + PCE Mar (3.3% YoY, +50bp) + Chicago PMI + Initial Claims + BoJ overnight. Both GDP-hot AND Core-PCE-hot in the same morning would force a complete repricing of the rate path — expect a 10Y bid, a firmer dollar, and a risk-off rotation. Either one cooling alone is the base case.

Mag-7 earnings cluster — the AI capex test: GOOGL Tuesday AMC (Cloud + Search), MSFT/META/AMZN Wednesday AMC (the night of three Mag-7 prints in 90 minutes), AAPL Thursday AMC. Microsoft’s Azure AI growth print is the single most diagnostic line — a print below 30% growth would signal enterprise AI adoption running slower than the semiconductor leadership thesis assumes, and the within-tech rotation thesis would face its first fundamental challenge of the year. A print at 35%+ confirms the capex story and extends the runway.

Software-Specific Triggers — The Open Verdict

NOW closed Friday at $90.17, already +5% off Wednesday’s capitulation. IGV at $85.20 held flat on the week — the structural floor at $74.62 sits over $10 below current. The early reads tilt toward bottom-in. The triggers below are the structural decision points.

· NOW close below $81.24 daily: the bridge math collapses, the SaaSpocalypse thesis returns to base case, IGV tests $74.62 next.

· NOW Monday close above $95: the priced-in case advances strongly; analyst re-ratings are net positive; the bottom is in for this episode.

· IGV close below $74.62: the technical floor of the software complex breaks, the March bottom is invalidated, and the AW25 Agentic Winners setup is suspended pending the Q1 earnings sequence completing.

· WDAY (May 27) or CRM (May 28) cRPO deceleration below 15% CC: a sector-wide fundamental problem, not idiosyncratic to NOW. Would confirm that the bridge math applies broadly across enterprise SaaS, not just to ServiceNow.

· Now Assist ACV walk-back at the ServiceNow Analyst Day on May 4: the AI uplift number that supports the bridge math gets revised down. The compensating term in the equation collapses. Bear case for software confirmed.

· Now Assist ACV reaffirmation or upward revision on May 4: the bridge math the market just enforced is rejected by management. The multiple compression from this week begins to unwind. Bull case for software confirmed.

Technical Invalidation Levels (US Indices)

QQQ: weekly close below 648 confirms a false breakout from the channel ceiling. Below 600 ends the wave-3 read and argues consolidation into the 580-585 zone. Below 498 is the full structural invalidation of the multi-year bull case on QQQ.

Indicator Shift Triggers

· Coppock Curve rolling from rising to topping — would flag larger-degree maturity, consistent with the Section 3 forecast that the larger Wave 3 completes in summer 2026. Watch through May-July.

· ADX falling below 20 from a current strong-trend reading — would signal a transition from trending to ranging, consistent with sub-5 completion and a transition to the larger Wave 4 corrective phase forecast for late August through mid-October.

· Rubin Build-Out W/W flipping negative while QQQ continues higher — the within-tech rotation framework breaks. Capital is leaving the AI infrastructure layer rather than rotating between its sub-sectors. The bear case for the entire generation-rotation thesis would be activated.

The thesis holds until one of these triggers fires. When they do, the next edition updates the read.

(12) Final Words

“The best stock to buy is the one you already own.”

— Peter Lynch

Lynch said it about a different kind of market and a different kind of investor. The application to a within-tech rotation, however, is direct: the reader who held the AI infrastructure thesis through the March consolidation, through the rotation-out-of-tech narrative of Q1, through the SaaS scare of this week — that reader did not need to do anything new. The Rubin Build-Out kept holding the right names through every phase, because it was designed around the function the market was rewarding, not around the labels the market was discussing.

The Litmus Test bent — but did not break. The expected revert-to-mean ran its course off oversold extremes. News triggered the mid-week shock. NOW and IBM each took double-digit single-session damage on beats. And IGV at the index level closed essentially flat on the week. The damage was idiosyncratic. Friday’s NOW +5% recovery and SAP’s positive print already tilt the read toward priced-in rather than continuation lower. Tilts are not verdicts, and the earnings response from Tuesday onward is the resolving signal — but the early evidence is on the side of bottom-in, not new lows.

The verdict on software matters specifically for the AW25 setup. It does not matter for the broader thesis. Every “rotation out of tech” call since October 2022 has been a rotation within tech. Episode 47, by Saturday’s close, is data point number nine.

Sub-5 of larger Wave 3 has weeks to run. The Mag-7 earnings cluster is the next test. The FOMC is the macro pivot. The summer push will resolve into the late-August seasonal weakness, the midterm-year setback, and the post-midterm rally — three frameworks pointing to the same nine-month roadmap.

The within-tech rotation is the framework that explains why the software break did not become a tech break, why the semiconductor extension is not euphoria, and why the Rubin Build-Out has tracked at 13× the broad benchmarks year-to-date, and this week confirmed it again. The work is to stay with what works while it is still working — and to respect the falsification levels when they eventually fire.

The wave-3 impulse off the March 30 low extended on the US and Asian semiconductor sides, while Europe and broader emerging markets paused. Read structurally, not narratively: the move is doing exactly what the count requires.

VEU pulled back from 81.63 to 80.27 on the week, a −1.67% retrace inside the steeper trend channel established in February 2025—no technical damage. The lower channel boundary near 76 remains untouched.

The S&P 500 closed the week at 7,165.08 (+0.80% Friday, +0.6% for the week, fresh all-time high). Nasdaq at 24,836.60 (+1.63% Friday, +1.5% for the week, fresh all-time high — fourth consecutive weekly gain). Dow Jones diverged at 49,230.71 (−0.16% Friday, −0.4% for the week). Russell 2000 closed at 2,787.00 (+0.43% Friday). VIX at 18.71, up from 17.48 the prior week — volatility creeping but still historically benign.

The headline trades of the week were two: Intel surged +23% on the week to a fresh all-time high, finally surpassing the level it reached during the dot-com peak in 2000; Nvidia closed Friday with its market capitalization back above $5 trillion.

Week Winners

Asian semiconductor and tech-heavy markets led the global tape. Taiwan’s TWSE rose +5.78%, Korea’s Kospi +4.58%, Korea 200 +4.34%, Japan’s Nikkei +2.12% — directly capturing the upstream of the semiconductor rally that drove SMH +9.11% in USD terms. China held up better than Hong Kong: CSI 300 +0.86%, Shanghai Composite +0.70%, while Hang Seng softened −0.70%. In the US, semiconductors carried the tape almost alone.

SMH closed at 506.44, up +9.11% on the week. SOXX delivered an even bigger move, posting its 18th consecutive up day — a record since the ETF’s 2001 inception. Per a NYSE research note, semiconductors are now ~15.5% of the S&P 500’s market-cap weight and have contributed roughly 4.9 percentage points of the index’s 12.8% rally since March 30 — about 40% of the entire move.

Week Losers

Europe was broadly red. The DAX fell by −2.32%, Euro Stoxx 50 by −2.92%, CAC 40 by −3.17%, IBEX 35 by −4.29%, and MDAX by −5.33%. Eastern Europe was equally weak: WIG −3.36%, ATX −3.42%, BUX Budapest −3.56%. India’s Nifty 50 fell −1.87%, Australia’s ASX 200 −1.79%, Switzerland’s SMI −1.91%, Brazil’s Bovespa −3.09%, Mexico’s IPC −0.88%. The week’s deepest decline came from Indonesia: the Jakarta Composite Index fell −6.61%, with a -20.35% three-month return and -17.55% YTD Indonesia stands out as one of the clearest red zones globally. WTI crude completed a near-perfect round-trip, climbing back to 94.88 (+14.88% on the week) after the prior week’s −9.41% Friday plunge.

The contrast is the point: US new highs and Asian tech extension on top of a broad European/EM pullback; semis on a record streak, while software (IGV) stalled; oil reversing while the equity rally continued. This is the shape of a wave-5 extension on the leadership tape, meeting a brief, sharp wave-4-degree pause on the rest of the global tape.

(2) Overview: The Global Market Map

The global stock market map for the week of April 19–25 was clearly divided between strong Asia tech leadership, mixed China, and broad weakness across Europe, India, Australia, and parts of emerging markets. The strongest five-day gains came from the Taiwan Weighted Index +5.78%, the Kospi Composite +4.58%, the Kospi 200 +4.34%, and the Nikkei 225 +2.12%. The greenest part of the map was concentrated in North Asia, especially markets linked to semiconductors, AI, memory chips, and export-driven technology.

China was more mixed but still relatively resilient. The CSI China 300 rose +0.86%, while the Shanghai Composite and Shanghai Class A Index both gained +0.70%. However, the Shenzhen Class A and Shenzhen Composite both slipped −0.02%, and the Hang Seng Index fell −0.70%, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dropped −0.78%. So the China/Hong Kong area was not a strong green zone; it was more of a neutral-to-slightly red zone, with mainland large caps outperforming Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Europe was mostly red for the week. The DAX fell by −2.32%, the Euro Stoxx 50 declined by −2.92%, the CAC 40 lost by −3.17%, the IBEX 35 dropped by −4.29%, and the MDAX fell by −5.33%. Eastern Europe was also weak, with the WIG Index down 3.36%, the Austrian Traded Index down 3.42%, and the BUX Budapest Index down 3.56%. This suggests that European equities were under pressure broadly, not just in one country or sector.

Other global markets also showed stress. India’s Nifty 50 fell −1.87%, Australia’s ASX 200 dropped −1.79%, Switzerland’s SMI declined −1.91%, Mexico’s IPC lost −0.88%, and Brazil’s Bovespa fell −3.09%. The weakest market in the table was the Jakarta Composite Index, down −6.61%, with a very weak 3-month performance of −20.35% and YTD loss of −17.55%, making Indonesia one of the clearest red zones on the map.

The overall message: global equities were not uniformly strong; leadership was narrow and concentrated in Asian technology-heavy markets. Taiwan, Korea, and Japan’s Nikkei were the bright spots, while Europe, Indonesia, Brazil, India, and Australia were negative. North Asian tech markets light up the map, while Europe and emerging markets flash red.

The Macro Backdrop

Behind the regional dispersion sits a coherent macro story. The Iran-US peace track stalled this week: President Trump extended the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire indefinitely, but Vice President JD Vance canceled his planned trip to Pakistan after Tehran refused to attend the mediated talks. Iran reportedly seized two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz; the US blockade of Iranian ports remains in place. WTI responded mechanically, climbing back to $94.88 — a near-complete round-trip of the prior week’s plunge. The dollar firmed; the 10-year Treasury yield drifted to roughly 4.30%.

Q1 earnings season is reinforcing the structural bull case. Approximately 28% of S&P 500 companies have reported, and 80%+ have beaten both EPS and revenue estimates. The earnings growth rate keeps drifting higher each week of the season; analysts now model 18.6% earnings growth for full-year 2026.

The headline drama was Intel. The chip giant beat Q1 EPS and revenue, raised its outlook on the back of an aggressive AI strategy, and the stock surged +23% on the week to break above its 2000 dot-com peak — a 26-year price ceiling, finally cleared. NVIDIA retook the $5 trillion market cap mark on Friday’s session. Bitcoin held near 77,595 (essentially flat); gold softened to 4,725.40 (−3.16% W/W) on the dollar firming. The Department of Justice announced it would drop its criminal probe into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, removing one source of policy-process uncertainty heading into next week’s FOMC meeting.

Tech Thematics — The Intra-AI Divergence

The intra-tech divergence is the week’s most diagnostic data point. Semiconductors went vertical; software stalled. SOXX is up more than 11% over five sessions; IGV is down approximately 1% over the same span. Last week’s edition flagged the software bottom recovery as the tape's breadth signal. This week, that signal is on hold. The AI trade has narrowed back into infrastructure for now — a development that was discussed as a Section 11 trigger last week and is now visible in the price.

The roadmap comes into view. The wave count and the seasonal calendar are saying the same thing: a final push higher into late spring and summer, a sharp setback in late August through mid-October that aligns with both seasonal weakness and the historical midterm-year drawdown, and a year-end rally into 2027—three independent frameworks — Elliott structure, seasonality, and presidential cycle — point to the same calendar.

The Thesis

The bull market that began in autumn 2022 is in wave 3 of the larger degree, and wave 3 is extending. Inside that wave 3, the impulse off the March 30, 2026, low is sub-wave 5, and the rule of price equality between wave 1 and wave 5 of an extended wave 3 places its target meaningfully above the current price. The setback that follows lines up precisely with the historical midterm-year drawdown window and the seasonally weakest stretch of the calendar. The post-midterm rally that follows lines up with the strongest year of the four-year presidential cycle.

This is not a forecast for the next week. It is a roadmap for the next nine months.

The structure is clean enough to label without controversy:

• Wave 1 (larger): autumn 2022 → February 2023. The first impulse off the bear-market low.

• Wave 2 (larger): February 2023 → October 2023. The complex, extended sideways correction.

• Wave 3 (larger), in progress: October 2023 → ongoing. The extended impulse, now ~30 months in.

The rule of alternation between corrective waves — sub-2 was complex and time-consuming, so sub-4 should be (and was) sharp and brief — is the mechanism that confirmed the sub-4 reading at the March 30 low. The sub-5 impulse is now underway and accelerating.

Inside an extended third wave, the typical price relationship between sub-1 and sub-5 is equality. Sub-1 (October 2023 → autumn 2024) ran approximately 15 points on VEU. Sub-5, beginning at the March 30 low near 76, projects to roughly 91 under the equality rule. A 1.618 extension would project closer to 100. Section 6 develops the technical levels in detail.

The VT/SPY ratio held its 30-week moving average for the third consecutive week and then flattened. Last week’s reading of “co-leadership rather than rotation” remains the regime, with the qualifier that the co-leadership took a one-week pause as the dollar firmed. The ratio did not break — it stopped expanding. That distinction matters: a rotation away would show up as a downside break of the 30W MA; pausing while the macro digests an oil rebound would show up as flattening above the 30W MA. The latter is what we have.

The trend channel is intact, the wave count is intact, and the breadth structure is intact. What changed this week is the velocity, not the direction.

(4) The State Continued: Regions & Sectors

Asia Pacific extended its leadership. Taiwan, Korea, and Japan rose 2-6% as the semiconductor capex narrative drove North Asian tech-heavy indices. This is structurally meaningful: Korea and Taiwan host the upstream of the global semiconductor supply chain — TSMC, Samsung memory, SK Hynix. Their leadership reflects, and amplifies, the same wave-5 sub-impulse driving SMH and SOXX in the US. China was mixed: mainland indices held (CSI 300 +0.86%, Shanghai +0.70%), while the Hang Seng softened by 0.70%.

Europe softened with the dollar firming. The euro weakened modestly against the dollar over the week, and EUR-denominated equity indices gave back roughly 2-5% in USD terms — DAX −2.32%, MDAX −5.33%, IBEX −4.29%, CAC −3.17%. Eastern Europe was equally weak. The April story for European equities remains the strongest in years; one week of dollar-driven cooling does not unwind it, but it does confirm that the European leg of the rally is a dollar-sensitive trade rather than an autonomous one.

Latin America gave back despite the oil rebound. Brazil fell 3.09% for the week, even as crude rebounded — a sign that the rotation out of risk in EM was broader than the energy bid could offset—Mexico’s IPC −0.88%. The April monthly gains for the region remain intact and substantial, but the weekly print is a clear pause.

EMEA and other emerging markets tracked the dollar move asymmetrically. Saudi Arabia and Norway held on to the energy bid. South Africa held; Turkey traded mixed. India was the most defensive of the major emerging-market exposures, with the dollar move weighing more than the energy bid helped — Nifty 50 −1.87%. Indonesia stood out as the week’s deepest global decline at −6.61%, a market with structural concerns of its own (three-month at−20.35%, YTD at −17.55%).

Sector rotation was narrow, not broad. Only two of nine global sectors posted weekly gains: Technology (IXN +3.5%) on the back of the semiconductor extension, and Energy (IXC +3.1%) on the oil rebound. Everything else gave back. Utilities (JXI +0.5%) held flat — a meaningful divergence within the defensive complex, with the rate-sensitive defensive catching a bid on modestly higher yields.

The cyclical complex paused, with Industrials (EXI −1.2%) and Materials (MXI −1.8%) both retreating. Consumer Discretionary (RXI −2.9%) and Financials (IXG −2.9%) were equally weak — Discretionary’s softness is notable given Amazon’s +3.47% Friday move, implying broad weakness across the rest of the consumer basket against a backdrop of consumer sentiment at 49.8, the lowest reading on record. Healthcare (IXJ −3.7%) was the deepest decliner of the week.

ACWI at −0.3% on the week summarises the picture: the global benchmark held nearly flat because Tech’s heavy index weight and Energy’s gains offset the broad weakness in everything else. The rally was real but narrow.

This is not a contradiction to the wave-5 thesis — it is the textbook signature of one. Late-stage extended-wave-3 sub-impulses commonly show leadership concentration rather than breadth. The highest-momentum corner of the tape (semis, AI infrastructure, North Asian Tech) carries the index while the bulk of the market consolidates after the strong impulse on March 30. Healthy wave 3s are broad; healthy fifth waves of extended thirds are narrow. The breadth question is for Wave 4 — not for sub-5 of Wave 3.

Tech Thematics — Watch the Software-Semis Spread

Within the tech thematic complex, the divergence between semiconductors and software is the week’s most diagnostic feature. SOXX +11% in five sessions; IGV essentially flat to slightly down. Last week’s bottom recovery in IGV, CLOU, and CIBR was the broadening signal — this week, that broadening pauses.

Two readings are possible. The constructive one: software is consolidating its sharp recovery ahead of the next leg, and Mag7 Software's earnings next week (MSFT, GOOGL, META, AMZN) become the fundamental catalyst that rebroadens the tape. The cautious one: semis are extending into a euphoric blow-off while software signals that the broader AI risk appetite is more selective than it appeared a week ago.

The earnings reports next Tuesday through Thursday will be the proximate test. The structural read does not depend on the resolution: wave-5 impulses commonly see leadership concentration before broadening into the larger top. Watch the relative line of IGV vs. SMH: a fresh higher low on IGV during semiconductor consolidation would re-confirm the broadening; a clean break of IGV’s 4-week low while semis hold would confirm the narrower path.

(5) What May Lie Ahead: Macro Setup

Fed meeting next week is the macro event of the quarter. Q1 earnings continue to deliver. Seasonality remains constructive for the next 8–10 trading days, then turns negative. The dollar-yield-oil triangle has firmed against ex-US for the moment; whether that persists is the macro question for May.

Money Temperature

The Money Temperature pipeline reads in the Transition zone this week — the same regime as the prior week, with mechanical inputs pulling in opposite directions. Higher oil and a firmer dollar push the score warmer; modestly higher yields and an uptick in VIX push it cooler. The net is a flat week-over-week reading that confirms the structural risk-on posture without signaling any shift toward overheating. A score below 75 leaves the framework constructive on equities. We begin reducing gross exposure as the score approaches 75-80 — not yet in play.

Central Bank Pulse

Fed: The April 29–30 FOMC meeting is the macro event of the quarter. Market pricing assumes a hold; the question is the characterization of the inflation and growth outlook in Powell’s press conference. Two crosscurrents to watch: the Q1 earnings beat rate and resilient retail sales argue against any dovish pivot; consumer sentiment at 49.8 — the lowest reading on record, below the GFC, COVID, and post-Russia-invasion lows — argues for one. Inflation expectations for the year ahead remain elevated at 4.7%. Fed nominee Kevin Warsh’s confirmation testimony was viewed as more hawkish than expected, and this has begun to seep into the yield curve. The DOJ dropping its Powell probe clears one process uncertainty.

ECB: The euro area’s dovish path remains intact. Dollar firming this week was less a hawkish-Fed story than a stalled-peace-talks story; the underlying ECB-Fed divergence supporting European equities remains structurally unchanged.

BoJ: Rate-hike expectations for the next BoJ meeting have continued to fade, consistent with the prior weeks’ read. The yen weakened modestly against the dollar.

PBoC: China’s Q1 GDP at 5.0% beat expectations. The PBoC’s accommodative stance continues without fresh stimulus. China-listed equities (MCHI) traded mixed on the week, sensitive to the dollar move and to the technology-export-control narrative.

The dollar-yield-oil triangle is the pivot. Last week’s ex-US leadership was anchored in a weakening dollar, falling oil prices, and stable yields. This week’s ex-US pause was anchored on a firming dollar, rebounding oil, and modestly higher yields. The mechanism is well-understood; the question for May is whether the peace-track stalling persists or resolves.

Second, the consumer-cyclical and China overweights are dollar-weakening trades, and they sit a step ahead of the price. April 2026 is on track to close as one of the strongest months for VEU in its 16-year history. April has averaged +1.95% with a 76.47% hit rate; the historical best case was +8.70%. April 2026 month-to-date through April 24 is approximately +6.5%, comfortably in the top quartile of historical Aprils.

The seasonal tailwind fades quickly. May has averaged −1.16% with a 43.75% hit rate. June has averaged +0.43% with a 44% hit rate. The May–June window is historically the softest stretch for ex-US exposure. The seasonal map matches the wave count: a finishing impulse into late April / early May, a pause through May–June, a resumption higher through July–August.

The map then turns sharply negative. September is historically the worst month of the year for global equities. October in midterm-election years is statistically the most volatile month of the four-year presidential cycle. The seasonal soft window from late August through mid-October is well-documented; in midterm years, specifically, the average drawdown to the October low is approximately 17%, and post-midterm November is the strongest month of the four-year cycle.

This is the calendar that lines up with the wave count. Sub-5 of larger Wave 3 finishing into summer; larger Wave 4 forming through the seasonal soft window with the midterm overlay; larger Wave 5 launching from the post-midterm low into 2027. Three independent frameworks — Elliott structure, seasonal pattern, presidential cycle — point to the same nine-month roadmap.

Two-degree count, two projection rules. Sub-5 of larger Wave 3 underway since March 30; sub-1-equality projects roughly 91 on VEU; 1.618 extension projects toward 100. The intermediate resistance at 83 (channel top) and 85.20–87.90 (prior Fibs) are stations on the way, not destinations.

Technical Commentary

This week’s 1.67% on VEU is internal to sub-5 — a brief consolidation inside an unfolding impulse, not a trend-degree pause. The Slow Stochastic reading printed as extremely overbought the prior week; one sideways week that resets the indicator without breaking the channel is the textbook continuation pattern in a confirmed bull market. Coppock remains rising; the 30W moving average remains below price and is rising; ADX remains in a strong-trend reading.

The wave-5 sub-structure can itself be counted in five waves at one lower degree. The move off the March 30 low to the April 17 high reads cleanly as wave 1 of the sub-5 impulse. This week’s pause is sub-wave 2 of sub-5, and by the same alternation logic that anchored the larger reading, this sub-wave 2 should be sharp and brief, with sub-wave 3 of sub-5 then driving the next leg toward 85–87.

Hard invalidation: weekly close below 76. That level breaks the steep trend channel and breaks the wave count. A move below 76 would invalidate sub-5 in progress and force a rethink — likely to a more complex correction at the larger degree. Below 64.02 horizontal support, the entire wave-3 read from October 2023 is off the table.

Indicator Focus — Why an Overbought Pause Is Constructive

Last week’s edition flagged the Slow Stochastic at 95.46 / 97.06 as the headline technical tension. The diagnosis was: in a confirmed bull regime, extreme Stoch readings tend to produce sideways consolidations of 2–6 weeks, not immediate reversals. This week’s reading is one data point in that pattern — a one-week pause that reset internals without breaking price structure.

The Stoch behavior during this consolidation is the signal to watch. If Stoch resets toward the 40–60 zone while price holds above the 78 area, the wave-5 continuation is fully intact, and the next leg is the high-probability path. (11) What May Go Wrong: Risk & Change Triggers

The falsification test: what would invalidate Sections 3, 5, and 6 — and how we would know.

Macro Change Triggers

The Fed meeting on April 29–30 is the proximate macro event. A hawkish surprise — particularly any pivot in Powell’s framing of inflation toward “more persistent than expected” — would lift yields, firm the dollar further, and pressure the ex-US trade. The base case is hold-with-balanced-tone; any deviation gets weighted.

The Mag7 earnings cluster — Microsoft, Alphabet, Meta, and Amazon all report next week — is the proximate fundamental test. The AI capital-expenditure trajectory implied in their 2026 guidance is the bedrock of the semiconductor extension we have been tracking. A clear deceleration in capex guidance from any of the four would directly challenge the wave-5 read by removing the fundamental engine.

Technical Invalidation Levels

Sub-5 in progress (smaller degree): weekly close below 76 on VEU — break of steep channel lower trendline. Would invalidate sub-5 and frethink, requiring a more complex correction to a greater degree.

Sub-5 timing: sub-5 should not exceed sub-1 in time meaningfully. Sub-1 ran approximately twelve months. A sub-5 that ran four months without reaching the 91 equality target would itself raise structural questions — extended waves can stretch in time, but the equality rule applies in price, and time-stretched extensions without proportional price extension would warrant scrutiny.

Larger Wave 3 (full structure): weekly close below 64.02 horizontal support invalidates the entire wave-3 read from October 2023. This is the bright line below which the bull market itself comes into question.

Indicator Shift Triggers

Three indicator moves would flip the current read:

First, Coppock rolling from rising to topping — would flag larger-degree maturity, consistent with the Section 3 forecast that larger Wave 3 completes in summer 2026. Watch for this through May–July.

Second, RS vs SPY breaking decisively below zero — last week’s “co-leadership pause” reading remains the working call. A clear break below the relative-strength zero line would confirm that the pause has become rotation.

Third, ADX falling below 20 from a current strong-trend reading — would signal a transition from trending to ranging, consistent with sub-5 completion and a potential transition to the larger Wave 4 corrective phase.

Calendar Triggers

The roadmap itself is testable on the calendar:

• By end of June: if VEU has not made progress toward the 85–88 zone, sub-5 may be running out of momentum

• Late August through mid-October: if the seasonal/midterm-year setback does not materialise, the larger Wave 4 read is wrong and the bull may be running hotter than the count suggests

• Mid-October low: if the setback materialises but does not produce a definable low, larger Wave 4 may extend beyond its expected window

The thesis holds until one of these triggers fires. When they do, the next edition updates the read.

(12) Final Words

A quote, an event, a perspective — something to carry into next week.

The framework that this edition has built — wave count plus seasonality plus presidential cycle, three independent reads aligning across nine months — is exactly the kind of confluence Druckenmiller had in mind. The work is in the analysis: identifying the moments when the frameworks line up, defining the falsification levels in advance, and being ready to take size when the alignment is real.

The frameworks aligned at the March 30 low. They align again now, at the start of sub-5 of larger Wave 3, with a roadmap visible through Q4. The discipline is to stay with the count while the count is working — and to respect the invalidation levels when, eventually, they fire.

The market made new all-time highs this week against a tape of stalled peace talks, an oil rebound, and one of the most extreme momentum readings in the history of semiconductor ETFs. None of this is consistent with conventional macro models. It is fully consistent with the price-first frameworks that Section 9 lays out. The disconnect is the system working as designed.

Sub-5 has weeks to run. Larger Wave 4 will come, on the calendar that aligns with seasonality and the midterm cycle. Larger Wave 5 will follow. The work is not to predict each week — it is to respect the structure across the months.

The official explanation — delayed Middle East deals, Armis integration, cautious guidance — is the management narrative. The real reason is more fundamental: the question of genuine investment.

ServiceNow on April 22: Revenue beat ($3.77B vs. $3.75B consensus), cRPO +25% YoY, Now Assist ACV target raised from $1.0B to $1.5B. Result: −17.75% on the trading day, from $103.07 to $84.79. Market cap from $107B to $87.8B. Roughly $20 billion evaporated in a single session — on a beat.

IBM on the same day: Revenue beat, Adj. EPS beat, software guide raised to >10% CC. Result: −6%.

Two beat-and-lose prints on the same day. That is not a coincidence, and it is not the Middle East. The market is recalculating a structural equation:

Legacy deceleration + insufficient AI uplift + hybrid-instead-of-outcome pricing = premium multiple no longer defensible.

This equation deserves the real work, term by term.

II. The bridge math that does not add up

Layer 1 — Legacy Decay is real

• Subscription growth 19% CC in Q1, down from historical 20%+

• cRPO Q2 guide of 19.5% CC — 150bp sequential deceleration versus 21% in Q1

• Renewal rate from 98% to 97%

• 150bp headwind from mix shift toward hosted hyperscaler offerings (already quantified in Q4 2025)

• ServiceNow’s own case studies tell the story: Robinhood deflects 70% of employee requests before any human intervention. A British engineering company with 45k employees reports 38,000 tickets deflected, resolution time down by two full days.

In the ServiceNow pricing model, every deflected ticket means one fewer fulfiller seat at the next renewal. The company celebrates the deflection numbers on the earnings call — and each of those numbers is simultaneously the evidence of seat erosion the bears are pricing in.

Layer 2 — AI uplift is real, but too small

• Now Assist ACV target for 2026 raised from $1.0B to $1.5B

• $1M+ Now Assist customers +130% YoY

• Net new logo ACV +50% YoY, including the largest single deal in company history at $15M

• AI Control Tower: average deal sizes more than doubled QoQ

• Raptor DB Pro: deal volume +80% YoY, five deals over $1M

But: $1.5B AI ACV on $15.7B FY subscription = 9.5% AI mix. Even if Now Assist delivers 50% ahead of plan (to ~$2.25B), that is 14% mix. The core accounts for 85–90% of revenue and is decelerating by 100–150bp per year.

The bridge math: +$500M AI uplift against ~$150–200M core deceleration. Net positive. But not positive enough to justify a forward P/E of 50x+.

Layer 3 — The market wants an outcome, ServiceNow delivers a hybrid

• Salesforce Agentforce: $2 per conversation — pure outcome pricing

• Workday: moving toward share-of-value capture on agent output

• ServiceNow: Foundation/Advanced/Prime with token pools — hybrid with consumption overlay

• CPO Amit Zavery expressed explicit skepticism about pure outcome pricing on the Q1 call

Why this matters for valuation: Pure outcome scales non-linearly with AI proliferation in the customer context. If an agent delivers $10M in business value and the vendor captures 5%, that is $500k in ARR from a workflow that previously generated two seats at $20k each — a 12x increase. Hybrid consumption scales linearly with token consumption: 1–2x per workflow, not 10x. The valuation multiple implied by these two models is dramatically different.

The synthesis: The market is not pricing that ServiceNow is broken. The market is pricing the equation as not matching a premium multiple. Slowly eroding core + AI uplift that does not fully compensate + a monetization model that caps the valuation upshot.

III. Where the multiple compression stands today

This is where it gets interesting. The compression has already played out in large part:

• Forward P/E: 20.37x — below the S&P 500 (~21x)

• EV/Revenue 2026E: 5.3x — below the SaaS median (6.1x)

• Drawdown from peak: −59.9% (from $211.48 to $84.79)

• Peak forward P/E ~80x → today 20.4x = −75% multiple compression

• Peak EV/Revenue ~13x → today 5.3x = −60% multiple compression

ServiceNow has already absorbed the full magnitude of the 2022–2023 SaaS bust (which compressed medians by around 60%). The category leader's premium over the sector median is fully eliminated. The market is pricing ServiceNow not as a premium name but as an average SaaS, for the first time in the company’s post-IPO history.

Analyst target cuts have happened. Stifel $135, Goldman $163, Jefferies $135, Piper Sandler $140, Raymond James $130, Evercore holding $175. Mean target post-cut at ~$148. At $85 current, that is +74% to the mean target. Even the harshest target (Raymond James $130) implies +53% upside.

IV. The only test that matters now

Now the loop closes. The fundamental equation explains the selloff; the multiple compression is 85–90% done. What remains open: does the market accept the net-positive bridge math — or does it continue pricing in pure outcome disruption?

This is a binary test with two technical anchors:

Scenario A — the hold: NOW $81.24 / IGV $74.62 hold on a daily close basis. Implication: the market accepts that core deceleration is net compensated by AI uplift. Capitulation is done, the bottom is in. The entry level for AW25 Agentic Winners is established. The risk-reward structure becomes asymmetric to the upside: 10–15% downside vs. 50–75% upside to the analyst mean. A 1:5 ratio.

Scenario B — the breakdown: New lows. The market concludes that hybrid pricing is structurally inferior and that AI uplift is not enough. Pain continues. The cycle runs to the absolute floor at 3–4x EV/Revenue, which for ServiceNow would be ~$60–65. Another 25–30% leg down.

This is not a technical chart level. This is the price point at which the fundamental thesis crosses with the disruption thesis.

V. The three layers of relative strength observation

The next 5–10 trading days contain more information than an entire quarter in normal market conditions. Three layers matter:

Layer 1 — Who holds in the decline? Future leaders lose less than their peer group. The signal is the differential, not the absolute performance.

Layer 2 — Who turns first? The first two or three names to recoup their losses within 48–72 hours are the leaders of the next cycle. Classic AW25 upgrade candidates.

Layer 3 — What does not repeat? The catalyst calendar is dense: Microsoft on April 29, ServiceNow Analyst Day on May 4, Knowledge 2026 from May 5–7, Workday on May 27, Salesforce on May 28. If the weakest names stop participating in the next negative impulse, the bottom is in.

VI. Generation Rotation: the software layer as next phase

In the Closelook Rotation Framework, each Nvidia generation cycles through Dawn → Early Ramp → Mid-Ramp → Sunset. April 2026 sits in Rubin Early Ramp — Memory +61% YTD, Packaging +43%. The infrastructure layer has been discovered and bought.

The next rotation is the orchestration layer on top of the infrastructure layer: enterprise software that operationally integrates AI agents. If $81.24 / $74.62 hold, this is the Rubin Dawn phase for the software layer — not hardware, but workflow. And it starts from valuations below the broader market, with bridge math that does not explode but does carry.

VII. What invalidates the thesis

No position without a defined exit. The bottom thesis is dead if:

• NOW < $81.24 or IGV < $74.62 on a daily close basis — technical bottom break

• Peer cRPO deceleration at WDAY (May 27) or CRM (May 28) below 15% CC — a sector-wide fundamental problem, not idiosyncratic

• Now Assist ACV walk-back at the ServiceNow Analyst Day on May 4 — the AI bridge math collapses in that moment

• Microsoft Azure AI revenue growth on April 29 below 30% — enterprise AI adoption slower overall than modeled

Each of these triggers forces an exit. All four together are unlikely enough that the opposite thesis holds the higher base rate — conditional on $81 / $74.62 holding.

The asymmetry is the core of this setup. The multiple compression is quantifiably 85–90% complete. The fundamental equation — legacy decay against AI uplift — is uncomfortable but nets positive. Over the next five trading days, the market is not deciding the direction of individual stocks. It is about deciding whether hybrid consumption models survive or whether pure outcomes become the only accepted monetization path in the AI era.

If $81.24 / $74.62 hold, the bottom is in, and Agentic Winners have their entry level. If not, the cycle runs to the absolute floor at 3–4x EV/Revenue.

Yogi Berra coined the formulation in a different arena, but the logic is identical. It ain’t over till it’s over. For the SaaSpocalypse thesis, the same applies — in reverse. The bottom is not confirmed until the retest has held. And that retest is running now.

The accurate read is different: Power Semiconductors just took the one-week lead within our Rubin 100 index, AW25 Agentic completed a synchronized V-shape recovery across six of seven sub-sectors (potentially a mean-reversion type only), and hyperscalers never actually participated in the agentic crash.

What Happened (as of 21 April 2026)

Two things happened in parallel that we think are the same thing.

Inside the Rubin 100 universe, the sector ranking reordered itself. On a year-to-date basis, High-Speed Interconnects still leads at +124%. On a one-month basis, Interconnects keeps running at +71%, but Power Semiconductors has moved to fourth place at +37%. On a one-week basis, Power Semiconductors is first at +13.53%, and Interconnects has dropped to sixth at +7.95%. Every earlier leader is still positive on every timeframe. A new leader has joined on top. Nothing rotated out. One more layer rotated in.

Inside AW25 — our 25-name agentic software sensor array — the picture is different in shape but identical in meaning. The composite index dropped from 1,005 on March 31 to 905 on April 10, a 10% drawdown in eight trading days. It has now recovered to 1,036, above the starting point. Six of the seven sub-sectors traced the same V-shape. The MAG7 Gateway sub-sector did not participate in the crash at all — it is up 12.65% over the 60-day window without interruption. Zero of the 25 names in the basket are currently classified as “cooling.” Nineteen sit neutral, six are heating.

Both stories have the same signature: the old leadership did not hand over. New leadership joined above and around it. The semis rally is broadening from Early Ramp into Mid-Ramp. The agentic recovery is broadening from hyperscalers outward into the rest of the stack. §3 makes the case that this is the structurally stronger setup, not the weaker one — and §4 names what comes next.

The broadening is only visible when you put the three timeframes side by side. YTD shows the history. 1M shows the acceleration. 1W shows who is leading right now. Read them as a sequence.

Power Semiconductors went from Rank 7 YTD to Rank 3 on the month to Rank 1 on the week. That progression is the acceleration. And the old leaders did not fall off the board — High-Speed Interconnects is still #1 on the monthly timeframe. This is broadening.

Power Semiconductors — The Six Constituents

Why Power is running now: The GB200 and Rubin rack architectures pull 120–140 kW per rack, a step-change from Hopper’s 35–40 kW. That is not a GPU story — it is a full power-delivery redesign. SiC and GaN components, high-voltage DC distribution, on-board converters per accelerator. Jensen Huang called power the next bottleneck on the GTC stage. ON, STM and MPWR sit directly in that bill of materials. The 1W move is the market pricing that bill in real time.

Thermal Management — Lagging, But for Structural Reasons

Thermal Management sits lowly on the 1W list (+2.22%) and on the 1M list (+20.32%). That looks like a contradiction of the broadening thesis. It is not.

Thermal Management had its leg. Vertiv — the dominant name in the cohort — ran 2023–2026 and is now digesting that move at a high base (despite another earnings beat yesterday). No new leader has emerged in the sector to replace it. Compare this with Power Semi, where ON, STM and MPWR are all posting 30%+ months simultaneously. Thermal is not the next joining layer. Power is.

The ordering of the broadening matters. Thermal first (2023–2025), now consolidating. Power second (now). The next layer is not Thermal re-accelerating — it is something further down the dependency chain.

Thermal management — consolidation at a high base

(3) The State — Broadening, Not Rotation

This is the core read of this edition. Everything else in the newsletter supports this one thesis.

The Thesis

The rally is broadening in two domains simultaneously. Inside Rubin, Early Ramp leaders keep compounding while Mid-Ramp layers — Power Semiconductors first — take the one-week lead. Inside AW25, six of seven agentic sub-sectors completed a synchronized V-shape recovery in twenty-one days, while MAG7 Gateway never participated in the crash. Nothing handed over. Everything added. That is the signature of a rally getting wider, not thinner — and two sub-sectors (Platform −1.03%, Vertical −2.88% over 60 days) tell us it still has runway.

1. Inside the semis, the broadening is sequential. Our Rubin 100 index moved through its first phase cleanly. Memory, Packaging, Substrates, Interconnects led from January through March. Power Semiconductors is the new one-week leader. That does not mean Memory stopped — Memory is still up on the week and on the month. It means capital kept buying Memory and also started buying Power. The three screenshots of the same sector map at YTD, 1M and 1W show the same fourteen names in the top half of the table. Only the ordering changes.

b) The Mid-Ramp layer has started, but Thermal did not go with it. Power Semiconductors is running. Thermal Management is not. Vertiv — the dominant thermal name — had its run in 2023–2025 and is consolidating at a high base. No new leader has emerged in the cohort. That is the disciplined read: broadening is not indiscriminate. Power joined because the GB200/Rubin rack architecture redefined its bill of materials. Thermal did not join because no analogous catalyst has landed.

c) The AW25 V-shape is the cleanest regime chart we have seen in 2026. The composite index went from 1,005 on March 31 to 905 on April 10 to 1,036 on April 20. Eight trading days down, eight trading days up. Every sub-sector traced the same shape with two exceptions: MAG7 Gateway (which never dropped, +12.65% on 60 days) and Vertical (which has recovered but still sits −2.88% on 60 days). The basket temperature reads 55 — neutral regime with warming bias. Six names heating, nineteen neutral, zero cooling. Zero. That is the number that tells you this is not a bounce, it is a regime shift.

d) Hyperscalers never participated in the agentic crash. MAG7 Gateway in AW25 is up 12.65% over the same 60-day window that saw the rest of the basket crash and recover. GOOGL is the hottest name in that sub-sector at 62. The hyperscaler cohort was a quiet safe haven inside agentic — the opposite of how most commentators framed the drawdown as “tech crashing.” Tech did not crash. Everything in AW25 except hyperscalers crashed, and then recovered. Hyperscalers kept compounding through it.

e) The first agentic winners turning are names that were left for dead. The hottest constituents in AW25 right now are DigitalOcean at a basket score of 75, Twilio at 68, Fastly at 68. These are not the obvious growth names. DigitalOcean is a neocloud pure-play that got written off when hyperscalers captured the infrastructure narrative in 2024. Twilio is the developer-API bellwether that has been in a three-year drawdown. Fastly is edge compute, which most analysts consider structurally challenged. All three sit in sub-sectors — Neocloud/Edge (+0.42% 60D) and Commerce+Orch (+6.75% 60D) — that have just completed their V-shape. These are signals of where capital is moving, not position recommendations. We do not hold them.

f) Two sub-sectors still lag. That is the runway. Platform (S2) sits at −1.03% over 60 days. Vertical (S6) sits at −2.88%. Both have traced the V-shape; neither has closed above the starting line. The coldest AW25 constituents — INTU at 46, WDAY at 47, PTC at 47, ESTC at 47 — concentrate in exactly these two sub-sectors. If the broadening thesis holds, these are the names that turn next. If the thesis breaks, these are where it breaks first. The watchlist in §4 makes this operational.

Regime Verdict — 🟢 Broadening Bull

Score 4 of 5 is a strong signal. The one neutral pillar is the structural tell: Platform and Vertical sub-sectors still below baseline means the broadening has not completed. That is bullish, not bearish — it says the rally has names left to rotate into before the signature exhausts.

The Dispersion Behind the Composite

The composite number hides the dispersion. Here is the 21-day cohort spread that actually matters:

Spread between hottest and coolest cohort in the Rubin/AW25 combined universe: +46 points. Wide spread means active rotation; broad participation means nothing cooling. Both at once is the broadening signature.

(4) The Outlook — Where the Wave Runs Next

§3 describes the state. §4 names what comes next — and what would invalidate the read.

Forward Reads — Three Waves to Watch

Wave 1 — Power Semi acceleration continues. ON, STM and MPWR all posted 30%+ monthly gains. The catalyst is structural — power-delivery redesign for GB200/Rubin racks — and the buying is only one week old as the new #1. Infineon just entered. Renesas is a pending-data name but structurally belongs to the cohort. Watch for the cohort to hold the 1W lead for a second consecutive week. If it does, Power Semi transitions from “joining” to “established Mid-Ramp leader.” If it fades, the one-week print was a spike, not a trend.

Wave 2 — AW25 Platform and Vertical sub-sectors close the gap. These are the two sub-sectors still below the March 31 baseline. The basket’s coldest names — INTU, WDAY, PTC, ESTC — concentrate here. A single week where Platform and Vertical both close above the baseline would complete the V-shape across all seven sub-sectors. That is the operational definition of “broadening completed” inside agentic.

Wave 3 — OBV divergences fire on OKTA and PTC. Both names sit in the coldest quintile with active technical divergences in the AW25 scanner. OBV divergences in cold names are early-turn candidates. If either name prints above its 20-day moving average on volume, it signals the coldest quintile is starting to turn — which historically leads the full-basket recovery by two to three weeks.

Watchlist — What Would Flip the Read

· Power Semiconductors drops out of the top three 1W sectors next Friday: Mid-Ramp joining thesis weakens. Semi broadening reduces to “Early Ramp continuation only.”

· AW25 basket temperature prints any “Cooling” name: 0 of 25 cooling is the broadest signal we have. A single cooling transition is not a reversal, but it is the first datapoint that would matter.

Central Bank Pulse

Fed: Hold at 4.25–4.50% keeps the long-duration discount rate steady — which is why AI-native software names could recover on multiple expansion alone. One cut priced by September, second at ~70% by December. For broadening specifically, the Fed is neutral: the regime does not need cuts to continue, but cuts would accelerate the Platform and Vertical catch-up.

ECB: At 2.25% and still cutting. The April move was executed; June at 25bp is priced near 80%. European Power Semi names (STM, Infineon) benefit from the ECB path twice — once through domestic liquidity, once through the general global risk-on backdrop that broadening regimes thrive in.

BoJ: Holding at 0.50% against services inflation above 3.0% is the unresolved policy error. A faster-than-expected hike re-prices yen carry and hits long-duration growth first. That means the coldest AW25 names — INTU, WDAY, PTC — are the most yen-sensitive in the basket, which is the second reason they are lagging.

PBoC: Managed easing. RRR at 9.5%, LPR at 3.10%. Broadening-regime relevance: Chinese liquidity is mostly a second-order signal for US hypergrowth, but any surprise acceleration would land hardest on picks-and-shovels semis — ANET, AVGO, MRVL. Watch the mid-May RRR decision.

Macro Commentary (Ed Yardeni, April 2026)

· “As far as the stock market is concerned, the war is over until further notice,” Yardeni said, suggesting that the market has factored in a resolution to the Iran conflict.

· “I think the market is right that Trump intends to end it sooner rather than later, and that the world economy, which has been remarkably resilient over the past few years, will remain so,” Yardeni stated regarding the ongoing geopolitical situation.

· “I don’t think the market will retest the low point reached on March 30th. There is too much money on the sidelines ready to come in during a pullback,” he noted regarding market volatility.

(9) Knowledge Corner: Broadening vs. Rotation

Why these two words mean different things — and why the difference is the edition’s whole point.

Rotation and broadening look similar on a one-week tape. Both show new names in the leadership table. Both show capital moving. The difference is what happens to the old leaders.

In a rotation, the old leaders hand over. Capital leaves Name A and enters Name B. The leadership changes hands, not size. The index can hold steady while internal composition churns. Rotation is zero-sum at the cohort level — what Name B gains, Name A gives up.

In a broadening, the old leaders keep compounding and new leaders join above them. Capital does not leave Name A; it arrives in addition at Name B. The index gains altitude, the leadership widens, and the spread between best and worst sector stays high even as the bottom of the distribution also lifts. Broadening is additive.

Three diagnostic questions separate the two:

Question 1: Are the old leaders still positive on every timeframe? In our Rubin 100 data this week, High-Speed Interconnects moved from #1 YTD to #6 on the 1W tape. If Interconnects had gone negative, that would be rotation. It is up 7.95% on the week. That is broadening.

Question 2: Is the dispersion staying high, or compressing? The Rubin sector spread on YTD is 120 percentage points. On the 1M view, the top-to-bottom spread is also wide (+71% to −20% for Wafer Processing). On 1W, the spread is +13.53% to −0.56%, still wide. Dispersion staying high means active rotation inside a rising tide — the broadening signature. Dispersion compressing toward zero means everything moving together without leadership — the late-cycle signature that precedes exhaustion.

Question 3: Are the laggards starting to turn, or giving up further? In AW25 this week, Platform and Vertical sub-sectors are still below baseline but have traced the same V-shape as the recovered sub-sectors. The coldest names — INTU, PTC, WDAY — have OBV divergences firing. Laggards turning is the confirmation of broadening. Laggards accelerating downward is the early sign of rotation-into-defense.

Why the distinction matters operationally. In a rotation, you trim the old leaders and add to the new. In a broadening, you hold the old leaders and scale into the new. The portfolio action is opposite.

A historical caveat. The broadening regimes of 1999 and 2020 both exhausted via a narrowing event — a single week where dispersion collapsed into the prior leaders as participation died. That pattern is the failure mode we watch for in §4 watchlist items three and four. Broadening is bullish. It is not permanent.

Framework Shift Triggers — Broadening Specific

· Any AW25 constituent transitions to “Cooling”: 0 of 25 is the broadest signal we have. First cooling name is the first crack.

· Rubin sector spread compresses to below 60 percentage points on YTD: Indicates leadership consolidating, not broadening.

· MAG7 Gateway sub-sector drops below baseline: The structural anchor of the agentic recovery. A break there reframes the entire AW25 read.

· Power Semi falls out of the top five 1W sectors for two consecutive weeks: Mid-Ramp joining was a spike, not a trend.

The thesis holds until one of these triggers fires. When they do, the next edition updates the read.

If you’ve been trading this bull market since the October 2022 low, you’ve seen this movie roughly twice a year. Same script, different macro villain, same ending. At some point, it stops being a coincidence and becomes a business model — for media, for strategists, for tech haters and value investors — anyone who needs something new to say every Monday morning.

Here’s the honest chronology.

Nine consolidations, nine rotation calls

February 2023 — SVB. Regional banking crisis, credit crunch fears. Tech sold off into the panic. Narrative: “Duration assets get hit first when liquidity breaks.” Resolution: Nvidia’s May guidance beat, triggering +53% in a day. Semis went vertical for the rest of the year.

August–October 2023 — The rate scare. 10-year yield ran from 3.8% to 5.0%. QQQ down 12%. Every strategist on television: “Higher for longer kills tech multiples, rotate into value.” Resolution: Powell pivot in December. NDX +25% in ten weeks.

April 2024 — Sticky CPI. Hot inflation print blew up rate-cut hopes. Nasdaq –7% inside a week. Narrative: “No landing, multiples have to compress.” Six weeks later: new all-time highs.

July–August 2024 — The Yen carry unwind. IWM +11% in a single week, Mag-7 –15%. Every macro desk called the regime change. “Breadth is broadening. The mega-cap era is over. Equal-weight finally wins.” Small caps rolled over within four weeks. Nasdaq made new highs through December.

September 2024 — AI capex bubble, wave one. Goldman’s “Too Much Spend, Too Little Benefit” paper went viral. Narrative: “Hyperscaler capex has no ROI, semis crack.” Hyperscalers raised capex guidance the next quarter. SMH made new highs.

January 2025 — DeepSeek. NVIDIA –17% in a single session on R1’s release — roughly 600 billion in market cap gone in an afternoon. “Compute thesis is dead. Efficiency kills infrastructure demand.” Jevons paradox played out in two weeks. Back to all-time highs by spring.

March–April 2025 — Liberation Day. Tariff shock, broad de-risking. “Supply chains unwind, semis are uninvestable.” Exemptions came. A pause came. Full recovery in weeks.

Summer 2025 — AI capex bubble, wave two. Stronger hyperscaler reports, and yet: “Circular financing, OpenAI deals aren’t real, this whole thing is a Ponzi.” Guidance kept climbing.

Q1 2026 — the current one. Energy leads. Staples hold. Russell 2000 up 9.5% in three weeks. Every strategist note: “The equal-weight trade was right all along.” Six weeks later, the CNBC obituary you just read.

Nine windows. Nine rotation narratives. Same ending every time.

Why the script never works

There’s a specific reason the “rotation out of tech” call keeps failing, and once you see it, you can’t unsee it:

“Tech” isn’t a sector. It’s the label markets attach to whichever segment of the economy is compounding innovation fastest at any given moment.

The theme rotates constantly — mainframes, PCs, enterprise software, internet, mobile, cloud, social, SaaS, semis, AI infrastructure, memory, advanced packaging. Within this bull market alone, the baton has changed hands four or five times. Software led into 2023. Semis took over mid-2023. Hyperscalers dominated 2024. In 2025, the weight moved down the stack to compute infrastructure. Right now in 2026, it’s rotating again — memory +61% YTD, advanced packaging +43%, Rubin in early ramp.

From 30,000 feet, this looks like “tech is leading.” From closer range, it’s a relentless reshuffle within the category. What strategists consistently misread as “rotation out of tech” is almost always rotation within Tech — from last cycle’s winners into next cycle’s. The exit door they keep pointing at isn’t actually a door. It’s a mirror.

The two conditions under which the call is actually right

I’m not saying the rotation-out-of-tech thesis is always wrong. I’m saying it’s right under exactly two conditions, and neither is in play right now.

Condition one: a hard rate shock. Duration assets compress first and most violently when the discount rate moves abruptly. 2022 was the textbook case — Fed Funds from 0% to 4.5% in 12 months, NDX down 33% — the rotation call was correct for roughly 13 months. Since the October 2022 low, no macro print has been large enough to repeat that. The 2023 yield spike came closest and still resolved in Tech’s favor within a quarter.

Condition two: the innovation layer is private. This one gets underappreciated, and for long-term allocators, it matters more than the first. Between roughly 2004 and 2012, public tech indices genuinely underperformed in stretches — because the compounding was happening in Facebook, Twitter, Uber, Airbnb, Palantir, SpaceX, all private. The public-tech investor of that era was looking at a shell of the real opportunity set.

The same structural risk exists today, arguably larger. OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, SpaceX, Stripe, Databricks — collectively among the highest-growth entities in the global economy, none listed. If your exposure is purely public-market Tech, a meaningful slice of the actual innovation is not in your portfolio, full stop. That’s not “tech is weak.” That’s “the object of desire isn’t on the ticker tape yet.” The correct response is access, not rotation.

Everything between those two conditions — the stuff that fills 95% of the rotation commentary — is noise dressed up as a regime change.

The 2026 version is no exception

Q1 handed the rotation camp a convincing story. Small caps ripped. Energy led through mid-February. Materials outperformed. Strategists who’d been calling for equal-weight for three years finally got their victory lap. Then six weeks after the March 30 low, information technology was up 20% and communication services up 16.5%, versus 11.4% for the S&P. Energy, the Q1 hero, is now down 10.3%. Staples flat. Materials trailing.

The rotation was real. It just went the direction rotations in this market almost always go — from the previous cohort of tech winners into the next. From last generation’s Hopper-era exposure into the Rubin early-ramp names. From generalist semiconductor exposure into the specific links of the stack where the capex is landing this quarter.

Next time the headline comes back around — and it will, probably by late August and last through September/October (seasonal pattern) — save yourself the anxiety and pull up this list.

Nine in a row. You don’t need a tenth data point to see a pattern.

That spread is the story. Not that semis are running. Semis always run in AI cycles. The story is that the specific supply-chain layers we mapped in the Rubin index are running harder than any broad ETF captures. The Nasdaq dilutes the signal with software, consumer, and services exposure. The SMH averages across the entire chip complex. Rubin isolates the AI infrastructure supply chain and nothing else.

The sector breakdown YTD shows why

The top five Rubin sectors year-to-date: High-Speed Interconnects +124%, Memory (HBM & NAND) +107%, Advanced Materials +99%, Substrates & Interposers +94%, Testing & Metrology +78%. Those are the Early Ramp layers of the Rubin GPU cycle — the layers our Generation Rotation Framework predicted would lead first. They led.

The bottom three: Wafer Processing +3%, EDA & Chip IP +16%, Architects (Chip Design) +16%. That is the Sunset of the prior cycle — Hopper-era leaders absorbing capital rotation away from them. Also predicted by the framework.

This week the ranking reordered

Power Semiconductors +13.53% is the new #1 — up from rank #7 on the year-to-date view. EDA & Chip IP +10.71% is second, recovering sharply from its Sunset trough. Foundry & Integration +10.18% and Testing & Metrology +8.40% complete the top four. Gases, Chemicals & Consumables at −0.56% is the only negative sector on the week.

The Mid-Ramp layer is joining. Power delivery for GB200 and Rubin rack architectures is the structural catalyst: ON +44% on the month, STM +37%, MPWR +36%. The old leaders did not hand over — High-Speed Interconnects is still positive at +7.95% on the week, still up 124% YTD. Nothing rotated out. One more layer rotated in.

Closing thought. When a custom index runs thirteen times the benchmark, the question is not whether it is right. The question is what it measures that the benchmark does not. Rubin measures the AI supply chain layer by layer. The Nasdaq measures averages. The spread is the framework working.

What Happened

The S&P 500 gained 4.52% on the week. The Nasdaq-100 gained 6.18%. Those are not relief rally numbers. Those are regime-reset numbers. VIXY collapsed 6.12% on the week, extending its one-month slide to 16.85%. Volatility is not retreating. It is being structurally repriced lower, and that distinction matters. The tape is not healing. It is rotating into a new risk-on phase, and the leadership profile makes that plain.

Growth dominated. Defensives did not participate. ARKK led all major ETFs, up 14.35%. IGV Software added 13.94%. CLOU Cloud Computing gained 11.93%. Meanwhile, XLE Energy lost 3.37%. Utilities fell 1.70%. Consumer Staples barely printed green at +0.11%. That divergence is not noise. When speculative growth runs double digits and rate-sensitive defensives bleed, the market is pricing in a structural shift in the rate and liquidity regime, not just a sentiment bounce.

Semiconductors confirmed the thesis. SMH gained 6.24% on the week and 17.91% over the past month. That one-month number is the tell. It means the chip complex was already rebuilding before this week’s surge. AIQ Broad AI gained 9.58%. CIBR Cybersecurity added 9.45%. The AI infrastructure trade is not rotating out. It is rotating up the risk curve, from large-cap AI plays into software, cloud, and disruptive-growth vehicles. QQQ’s 9.07% one-month return lags SMH by nearly nine points. Semis are leading QQQ. That is early-cycle AI infrastructure behavior, not late-cycle multiple expansion.

IWM’s 5.54% weekly gain and 12.10% one-month return deserve attention. Small caps do not outperform over a month unless credit conditions are easing or the market expects them to. The USD Index fell 0.29% for the week and 1.76% for the month. Dollar weakness, small-cap strength, and collapsing volatility are a coherent signal. Where we stand after the Hormuz opening: all four index ETFs at or near 52-week highs, breadth confirming, volatility collapsing to 17.48 on the VIX. Money Temperature moved to 62 — Transition (up-direction). Not euphoria yet, but the warming clock is on.

The Thesis

a) QQQ leads SPY by 166 basis points on the week, 6.18% vs 4.52%. That is a tech-forward tape, not a broad-market rally. QQQE’s 5.48% gain confirms the advance has genuine breadth inside the Nasdaq. IWM data is absent this week, so the small-cap read is inconclusive. DIA’s 3.12% trails every major index. Old-economy names are participating, not leading. The regime is growth-over-value, Nasdaq-over-Dow.

b) XLK’s 8.22% weekly gain sets the pace. XLY adds 6.66%. Everything else trails meaningfully. The cyclical-defensive split is stark: XLE dropped 3.37%, XLU fell 1.70%, XLP printed essentially flat at +0.11%. Healthcare managed only 1.01%. Industrials lagged at 1.16%. XLRE’s 3.88% is the one bright spot in the defensive-adjacent print. The sector tilt is unambiguous: risk-on, tech-led, with energy and utilities actively sold.

c) The internal Nasdaq structure shows concentration at work. QQQ’s 6.18% week is pulled higher by the megacap tech cohort, evidenced by XLK’s 8.22% outperformance. QQQE’s 5.48% trails QQQ by 70 basis points, confirming the top of the index is doing the heaviest lifting. The spread is not extreme enough to flag as a red-flag narrowing, but the breadth is not widening either. The equal-weight discount to cap-weight is the structural caution. Risk-on posture is valid. It is not yet broad-based enough to call a clean participation surge.

d) MGK’s 7.30% weekly gain outpaces SPY’s 4.52% by 278 basis points. Megacap growth is driving returns, not suppressing them. At this spread, concentration reads as healthy leadership rather than fragile crowding. Flag it if the gap widens further in the coming weeks.

e) ARKK’s 14.35% week tops the thematic table. IGV follows at 13.94%, CLOU at 11.93%. Speculative and software names are surging together. That is not an AI-native rotation. It is a broad risk-on lift across the growth spectrum. AIQ and CIBR, the more structurally grounded themes, gained 9.58% and 9.45% respectively. SMH lagged the group at 6.24% despite its 17.91% one-month base. The week belongs to speculation and software. AI-native semis are consolidating recent strength rather than extending it.

f) AW25 leads all Closelook indices at +12.86% for the week, confirming agentic-AI names as the sharpest edge of the tape. Rubin’s 6.60% week looks strong in isolation. Against its 25.93% one-month return, this deceleration is worth watching. HALO’s 4.32% week versus Rubin’s 6.60% opens a 228-basis-point spread. HALO’s 1.44% one-month return against Rubin’s 25.93% tells the full story: the infrastructure buildout thesis is running hot, broad growth quality is not keeping pace.

Seasonal tape is constructive through May but loses conviction by June — average returns thin to 1.1% on a coin-flip hit-rate. July is the real destination: 4.1% average, 94% hit-rate, the strongest seasonal window QQQ sees all year.

Regime Verdict

Regime Verdict — composite + 5 pillars

The regime reads Risk-On, but a score of 3 of 4 is not a clean green light. Headline indices averaged +4.84% on the week. Thematics surged +10.44%. Breadth confirmed — 73% of sectors participating. That is the surface. Underneath it, directional flow tells a different story: only 22% of the Rubin universe sits in Accel-Up or Reversing-Up. 61% is either decelerating or accelerating. This is a bounce with thinning internals, not a regime re-acceleration. Position for selective exposure — leadership in AI/software justified, broad beta not. One pillar flip kills the read: directional flow dropping below 15% Accel-Up collapses the composite to neutral or below.

QQQ leads SPY next week. The 1W spread — XLK +8.22% vs XLI +1.16% — confirms tech is absorbing rotation dollars fastest. IWM lags. Small-caps have no sector tailwind and no thematic catalyst. The index to watch is QQQ pulling away from SPY by at least 150 basis points on any continuation day.

Sector rotation is tilting hard into growth and away from defensives. XLK and XLY are the twin engines — consumer discretionary at +6.66% for the week confirms the risk-on regime is broad enough to include cyclical growth, not just mega-cap tech. XLF at +3.27% holds its bid but trails meaningfully. Watch for XLC to accelerate. Communication Services at +4.52% 1W is building base momentum. The next leg higher in XLC would confirm platform-scale AI monetization is getting priced, not just compute infrastructure.

Thematic leadership is unambiguous: speculative growth and software are running the table together. ARKK +14.35% and IGV +13.94% in a single week is a compressed risk rerating, not a rotation. CLOU at +11.93% with a negative 1M print tells you last week was catch-up compression — real breakout leadership sits in AIQ +9.58% and CIBR +9.45%, which have 1M backing. AI-native over broad software. Speculative names are participating but are not leading on a 1M basis. ARKK’s 1M at +10.95% is the exception — watch it closely for exhaustion signals.

Absorption ratio at 0.50 — 5 of 10 macro instruments in shock-absorbing mode — neutral-to-constructive, not fragile. At 62 warming, we hold the current gross. The trigger for gross reduction is a composite print of 75+. On current pace, 2–3 weeks away. No sizing change this week. The tape is doing the work.

Central Bank Pulse

Fed: The Fed holds at 4.25–4.50%, and the market prices the first cut in July with roughly 65 basis points of easing by year-end. Chair Powell’s April 16 remarks closed the door on a May move, citing persistent services inflation and tariff pass-through risk. The Fed is not pivoting. It is waiting for data that may not arrive on its preferred schedule.

ECB: The ECB cut its deposit rate to 2.25% on April 17, delivering its seventh consecutive reduction. Markets price one more 25-basis-point cut by June, with the terminal rate seen near 1.75%. The divergence with the Fed is now structural, not cyclical. EUR/USD bears have a policy tailwind; the trade is not done.

BoJ: The BoJ holds at 0.50%, and the April meeting produced no new forward guidance toward further hikes. Governor Ueda flagged global trade uncertainty — read: U.S. tariffs — as a reason for caution. Rate differentials keep the yen structurally weak against the dollar. USD/JPY will not break lower without a Fed pivot or a BoJ surprise, and neither is imminent.

PBoC: The PBoC holds its one-year loan prime rate at 3.10% and its five-year at 3.60%, but the easing bias remains intact. Authorities have room to cut; political will to deploy it aggressively is the variable. With export demand under tariff pressure and domestic consumption still soft, further LPR reductions before Q3 are the base case. CNY management remains the primary policy lever in the near term.

Macro Commentary

QQQ at 648.85 is trading without confirmed channel boundaries or active Fibonacci extensions. That absence is itself a read. Price is in structure-discovery mode. The path of least resistance depends entirely on whether 648.85 holds as a base or acts as a ceiling. A weekly close above 648.8, with increasing volume, confirms bid conviction. A failure here, with a close below 640, opens a flush toward the 620–615 range, where prior consolidation left unfilled structural demand.

Until channel walls are reestablished, resistance is air. No technical ceiling exists to slow a breakout move. That makes failed rallies more dangerous, not less. A rejection from current levels, with volume accelerating to the downside, is the primary invalidation of any constructive case. Bulls need QQQ to close the week above 648.85 and hold it on the retest.

Indicator Focus

The Slow Stochastic (14,3,3) prints 67.84 on %K and 39.26 on %D. That spread is wide. %K has run hard; %D has not confirmed. In a trending regime, this gap resolves by %D catching up, producing a bullish cross above 50 and extending the move. Mean-reversion indicators (Stochastic, RSI) were designed for range markets. In a confirmed trend impulse, they stay pinned at ‘overbought’ for the entire duration of the move. Every secular uptrend in equity history has looked overbought for most of its duration.

The trap: treating mean-reversion signals as exit signals in a trend market. The discipline: Use the Alignment Check first. If Coppock is rising AND ADX is above 25 AND RS vs SPY is positive, you are in a trend regime and Stochastic 95+ is a hold signal, not a sell signal. In a range regime (ADX below 20, Coppock flat), the same reading is actionable. The regime determines the read — the indicator alone does not.

The 3M breakout floor is 550. A weekly close below ends the wave-3 read and argues consolidation into the 520–525 zone. The 4Y log-channel lower band at 498 is the full structural invalidation — below that, the multi-year bull case on QQQ is off the table. Neither is close at the current 648.85, but a rejection at 650, followed by a volume break below 600, puts the 550 test back on the calendar.

What doesn’t have room is complacency. Money Temperature at 62 warming toward 75 is the clock. The oil-shock tail has been removed but not replaced; a new exogenous shock could reset the setup in a week. Adding risk into the 595-605 QQQ zone is a low-reward, high-regret trade. Staying invested through it — that’s where the edge sits. Ride the bull; don’t chase it into the channel roof.

This is not what flight-to-safety looks like. This is what the unwind of a crowded momentum trade looks like.

The historical reference makes the point harder. Across ten major conflicts over the past fifty years, gold has never performed this badly in the first four weeks of fighting as it has in 2026. If the parabolic leg into January were driven by sovereigns and family offices hedging a breakdown, this price action would be structurally impossible. Central banks do not sell into a war they are supposedly front-running.

The only reading that reconciles the tape: the late-2025 rally was momentum capital riding a trend, not capital positioning for tail risk. The stress test arrived. The bid wasn’t there.

The mirror trade

While gold has bled, Bitcoin has quietly reclaimed the high-$74,000s from its **5 February crash to $60,000**. Ether is back above $2,200. More interesting than price: Santiment reports BTC open interest **+59%** over seven weeks, ETH OI **+45%**. Open interest rebuilding *into* strength is the signature of a market that has finished being force-fed supply.

This is the same pool of risk-on capital we watched rotate **into** gold through Q4 2025 and **out of** crypto during the October–February drawdown. Same money, same momentum book, opposite direction.

*Two mean reversions, mirror-imaged. GLD (lower panel) broke above its upward regression channel into January — a statistical overextension — and is now unwinding back toward the midline. IBIT (upper panel) has spent the quarter pressed against the lower band of its downward channel and is now lifting toward the mean.*

The regression channels make the point quantitatively. Gold printed its January high **outside** its own 360-bar channel — a statistical overextension, not a haven bid. IBIT spent the same quarter pinned to the **lower** band of its channel, force-fed supply by the symmetric flow. Both instruments are now reverting toward their respective means. The tape is telling one story in two languages.

Three takeaways

**One — The gold unwind may not be finished.** If the flow that pushed gold from ~$3,200 to $5,594 was momentum rather than conviction, the symmetric retracement still has runway. We watch the $4,500 shelf closely; a clean break opens a gap back toward the $4,000 round number.

**Two — The Bitcoin liquidation phase may be.** BTC’s drawdown from the October ATH reached ~53% — painful, but well short of the 77% purges of prior cycles. That is the bear case. The bull case is structural: the people who had to sell, sold. Open interest rebuilding into higher highs is a late-stage bottoming signature, not a blow-off.

**Three — “Safe haven” gold needs new labels.** Gold has been trading as a risk asset with a geopolitical ticker in the background — the asset you bought because it was going up, the oldest reason in markets, dressed up in haven clothing. The Iran war stripped the costume.

Skin-in-the-game read

The 2026 Iran War has handed us something more valuable than a directional call: a behavioural X-ray of who actually owns what, and why. Gold’s failure and Bitcoin’s quiet bid are the same sentence, read in different languages. The positioning reveal is the trade.

(1) Why A Special Edition This Week

Every so often the market sets up a question so specific and so cleanly answerable that running the regular nine-dimensional scorecard would bury the signal rather than surface it. This is one of those weeks. Our regular scorecard — the nine-factor, six-instrument regime monitor — returns next Sunday. For the next five trading days, almost everything worth watching is concentrated in one question.

(2) The Setup

Three threads converge into this weekend.

The bounce. Software and cloud names completed textbook bottom recovery over the past two weeks. IGV printed +13.94% for the week ending April 17, closing at $85.08 after bottoming just above its 52-week low of $73.93. CLOU +11.93%, ARKK +14.35%, CIBR +9.45% — violent moves off a completed March drawdown, with the entire March correction reversed in five trading days. Oracle led the tape, up 13% in a single session on April 13. Michael Burry disclosed new software-sector longs the same week. The setup felt like a classic bottom build: weeks of selling exhaustion, then sudden absorption.

The attack. On Friday, April 17, Anthropic launched Claude Design — powered by the newly released Claude Opus 4.7 vision model — a direct assault on the design software category occupied by Figma, Adobe, Canva, and Wix. Figma (FIG) closed at $18.84, down 7.28% from the prior $20.32. Intraday, the stock printed $21.45 early before fading to $18.79, a classic failed-breakout tape. Adobe (ADBE) closed $244.45, down 1.49%, with an intraday range $243.50–$254.08 and a 52-week range of $224.13–$422.95 — the stock trades near its yearly low, already down 29.9% year-on-year. Anthropic CPO Mike Krieger resigned from Figma’s board three days before the launch. This was not an accidental release; it was a coordinated shot across the bow. QQQ rose 1.31% on the day to $648.85. IGV still rose 0.85% — underperforming QQQ by 0.46 percentage points but not breaking down.

The overhang. Two tail risks sit behind this specific setup. First, earnings season starts in earnest next week — Tesla on Wednesday, Alphabet on Thursday, multiple SaaS names in the two weeks after. Second, tensions in the Persian Gulf remain live despite the Friday headline that moved WTI 9%. Iran declared the Strait of Hormuz “fully open,” Trump kept the naval blockade in force, and seized another tanker on the same day. JMIC’s latest advisory records only 8 transits through the Strait on April 9, compared with a historical daily average of 138. The headline and the reality are not aligned. The broader market could weaken early in the week on either overhang.

(3) The Question

Do the attacked SaaS names — and the software ETF as proxy — outperform or match Nasdaq-100 over the next five trading days (April 21–25)?

That is the entire edition. Everything below is the argument for why this question matters and how to read the answer.

(4) Why This Is A Litmus Test

Market microstructure has a rule that beats most fundamental frameworks for identifying bottoms: when bad news stops moving the price down, the downside has been priced in. It is the mirror of the euphoria rule, where good news stops the price from moving higher because the upside has already been priced in. The mechanic underneath is seller exhaustion — everyone who was going to sell on the thesis has sold, and the marginal headline no longer finds a marginal seller.

This maps directly onto a specific dimension of the ABR (Agent Beneficiary Ratio) framework that drives our AI-disruption analysis. For ADBE and FIG, three of the four qualitative axes already flash red: high Legacy Exposure, low Agent Benefit, and low Upside Unpriced. The only live question is whether Downside Unpriced has also been repriced to zero or whether it remains meaningfully positive. Thursday, April 14’s 6% FIG decline on the Krieger resignation news break already suggested the market was partially positioned. Friday’s additional 7.28% confirms the market is still in the repricing phase. The next five days tell us whether the repricing is complete.

If IGV matches QQQ this week, the read is unambiguous: even the most exposed names in the software universe cannot be pushed lower by a direct existential attack, because the market has already written them into the Terminal archetype of the ABR framework. That outcome is paradoxically bullish — not as long-term winners, but as names where the downside is capped, and any positive surprise produces asymmetric upside. If IGV breaks meaningfully below QQQ, the read is also unambiguous: the downside is not yet priced in, the March bottom was a technical oversold bounce, and the next leg lower is coming.

IGV ratio between 0 and −2pp. Defer to earnings cluster late April / early May.

Scenario A — Pass (confluent bullish for software). IGV matches or outperforms QQQ through Friday, April 25. FIG defends $18, Adobe holds $240, the broader software cohort grinds sideways or higher against a rising QQQ. Reading: the March bottom is structural. Bad news is priced. The seller-exhaustion test passes. This opens the conversation for selective adds in the ETF — not single names — on the basis that Downside Unpriced has collapsed to near zero.

Scenario B — Fail (bounce rejected). IGV underperforms QQQ by two percentage points or more. FIG loses $18 and closes below $17.50. Adobe drops toward the 52-week low at $224.13. ADSK, CRM, and NOW roll over in sympathy. Reading: the bounce was a short-covering reflex, not a bottom. The marginal seller is still present; Claude Design was enough of a catalyst to resume the downtrend, and the March low itself is on the table as a retest. Back to sidelines, no adds, wait for the next bottom signal — which would not arrive before the earnings sequence completes.

Scenario C — Ambiguous (no verdict). IGV trades between 0 and −2.0 pp relative to QQQ. Some names hold, others roll. Intraday ranges stay wide, no clean resolution. Reading: The microstructure test is inconclusive. The next data point — earnings — becomes the arbiter rather than the tape. Defer all action until after the peer-group earnings cluster.

(6) The Watchlist

Specific names, Friday closes, and the levels that matter.

The single metric to watch is the IGV/QQQ ratio. It closed Friday at 0.1311. If the ratio holds or rises through next week, Scenario A is alive. If it falls through 0.1255, Scenario B is triggered; if it trades sideways in a narrow band, Scenario C is triggered.

The individual names matter less than the composite. FIG is the canary but also the most volatile; one name’s idiosyncratic move can mislead. ADBE, with its near-52-week-low technical setup and lower beta, is a cleaner read. IGV, as the ETF, removes single-name risk entirely.

(7) Ten Public Names Most Exposed To Claude Design

If Scenario C plays out — nothing decisive — neutral. The verdict holds through the earnings sequence; the answer arrives in the earnings prints rather than in the tape.

No positioning moves before Wednesday's close. This is a microstructure test; the first two days can produce noise that looks decisive but isn’t. Tuesday–Wednesday provides a signal with sufficient conviction to act; Thursday–Friday confirms or refutes.

By Wednesday close, if Scenario A is tracking, consider a selective add in IGV. Initial size 0.5 percentage points of portfolio weight. Scale up to 1.0 pp only on confirmation through Friday close. No single name adds — the question being answered is composite, not idiosyncratic.

By Wednesday close, if Scenario B is tracking: stay flat. Do not add software exposure. Do not short either — a 6-sigma IGV/QQQ divergence is already priced, and short setups after a 14% weekly bounce carry elevated squeeze risk. The disciplined move is to watch, not trade.

By Friday close, Scenario C remains ambiguous: defer the decision entirely. Wait for the earnings cluster to arbitrate. The SaaS earnings calendar tightens through the last week of April and the first two weeks of May; there will be no shortage of signals.

The five-day microstructure test answers exactly one question: Is the March bottom technically intact? It cannot answer the separate question: is the bottom fundamentally supported? The rally wasn’t confined to the US. VEU closed at 81.63 (+1.39% Friday), with ex-US regional ETFs participating in the broad risk-on.

The week’s dominant driver was geopolitical: Iran’s declaration that the Strait of Hormuz is fully open to commercial shipping, following the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire. WTI crude plunged −9.41% on Friday alone to 82.59, removing the energy-shock tail risk that had overhung the market for weeks.

Semiconductors led the tech rally — SMH closed at 464.16, up 10 consecutive days, at a new 52-week high. Q1 earnings season is reinforcing the move: 88% of S&P 500 companies reporting so far have beaten EPS estimates, versus the 5-year average of 78%, with earnings surprises running 10.8% above estimates.

Bitcoin participated in the risk-on bid at around 77,250 (+3.47% Friday), gold also firmed to 4,879.60 (+1.48%), a combination that typically signals broad liquidity expansion rather than defensive rotation.

Our proprietary indices confirm the tape. CL-Rubin Build-Out 100 closed at 6,055.90, up +6.72% on the week and +26.08% over the past month — the AI infrastructure trade running hot. CL-Euro-AI Sovereign 50 at 1,336.94 added +6.62% weekly and +10.50% monthly, with European AI names keeping pace.

This is not a narrow trade. The only clean losers were Energy (IXC), −3.92% on the week and −4.45% on the month, a direct reflection of the oil plunge, and Utilities (JXI), −2.23% weekly as rate-sensitive defensives rotated out.

VEU at 81.63 is trading in the steeper trend channel that has defined the path since February 2025 — materially different (steeper, better-defined) than the Feb-2024-to-Feb-2025 channel that preceded it.

VXUS tracks VEU closely, with a spread-neutral view, arguing that small-caps ex-US are participating rather than lagging — a breadth signal, not narrow leadership.

Chart — VT/SPY Ratio

The VT/SPY ratio is holding above its 30-week moving average for the third consecutive week. Over the past three weeks, the US and ex-US have rallied together — the ratio is stable, not expanding aggressively, suggesting a co-leadership regime rather than a pure ex-US rotation.

That’s a subtle but important distinction: the prior Oct-2023-to-Feb-2025 cycle was characterized by VEU outperforming SPY on a relative basis. The current cycle shows both rising together.

(4) The State Continued: Regions & Sectors

Asia Pacific led the week decisively. Korea (EWY) gained +9.80%, Taiwan (EWT) +8.16% — the two Asian economies most exposed to elevated oil prices via their import dependence, now released by the Iran peace dividend and the Hormuz reopening. This is the single most important breadth development of the week: the AI trade is no longer limited to infrastructure. Software joins the rally from a completed consolidation, which structurally broadens the AI thesis going into Q1 earnings for the major software names. The question for the next 4-8 weeks is whether IGV and CLOU can follow through beyond the bottom recovery into a proper new trend — the technical setup after a complete March-drawdown-round-trip in 5 trading days needs follow-through confirmation.

The Iran peace dividend is the dominant macro fact. Q1 earnings strength is secondary. Seasonality tailwind continues for one more week, then shifts. Dollar weakness remains the ex-US tailwind.

Money Temperature

Score: 62 🟡 Transition

The Money Temperature pipeline, scoring 8 macro instruments across rates, credit, FX, and commodities, sits at 62 this week — in the “Transition” zone. The yellow reading indicates the macro regime is neither cold (deflation/credit stress) nor overheated (stagflation/tight liquidity).

It is in transition — and the direction of transition matters more than the absolute number. Given this week’s moves — WTI down 9% on Friday, credit spreads almost certainly compressing as Iran tensions ease, risk assets across the board rallying, the dollar weaker — the read is a transition toward warmer, not cooler.

Yardeni’s April 15 read aligns on three axes with the Confluent Bullish verdict from Section 6. First, the AI-infrastructure leadership has broadened, not narrowed — hyperscalers drive the US tap. At the same time, the SMH printed a fresh 52-week high, exactly the pattern Section 4 identifies via the software/cloud bottom-recovery (IGV, CLOU, CIBR).

Second, Yardeni’s observation that Q1 earnings have delivered a fresh record print for S&P 500 EPS matches the fundamental support leg of this edition’s thesis — the 88% beat rate isn’t sentiment, it’s earnings. Third, his framing of “FOMOOP” — fear of missing out on peace — captures the Middle East de-escalation tailwind precisely. The only mismatch is that Yardeni remains US-centric. VEU is tracing clear impulse wave patterns — reading as wave 5 of the larger third impulse from the October 2022 low. A new steeper trend channel has been established since February 2025, with breakaway gaps confirming the regime change. Price is now at resistance at prior highs, zone around 83.

Overbought on Slow Stochastic (95.46 / 97.06) — but in a confirmed bull market, overbought on Stochastic is a normal state, not an actionable signal. Targets sit at ATH Fib ratios: 1.272 extension around 85.20, 1.618 extension around 85.20, 1.618 extension around 87.90.

Three different ways to play the non-US semiconductor ecosystem — and the differences matter more than the marketing suggests.

SMH (VanEck Semiconductor ETF) holds 25 of the largest global semiconductor names, market-cap-weighted. The US dominates the allocation — Nvidia alone is the largest holding — because the largest companies in the space are US-listed. Non-US exposure is real but concentrated: TSMC, ASML, Samsung via ADRs, a handful of Japanese equipment names. A “global semiconductor” label that is, in practice, majority US-driven. At its 52-week high of 464.16 this week, SMH has delivered 31.3% annualized over the trailing 10-year period.

SMHX (Themes Semiconductor ETF) takes a different cut — actively managed, concentrated, with deliberate tilts toward smaller and mid-cap names that SMH’s cap-weighting underrepresents. For investors seeking more equal exposure to the equipment chain (Tokyo Electron, SUSS MicroTec, Advantest) than to US megacaps, SMHX is the closer fit. Rubin Build-Out Ex-US is the Closelook construction: filter the Rubin Build-Out 100 universe down to non-US-domiciled names and equal-weight the result. Technical Invalidation Levels

The hard lines on VEU:

Primary invalidation: Weekly close below 76 — break of steep channel lower trendline. This would invalidate the wave-5 continuation read and signal that the current rally is completing rather than extending.

Structural: Break of 64.02 horizontal support — below this level, the entire wave-structure read from October 2022 is off the table. This is the bright line between “normal correction within a bull” and “bear-market confirmation.”

Indicator Shift Triggers

Three indicator moves from the Section 1 grid would flip the current reading:

First, Coppock rolling from rising to topping would flag regime maturity — not the end of the bull, but the start of the late innings. Watch for this in the next 4-8 weeks if the Stoch-driven consolidation discussed in Section 6 actually materializes. Second, RS vs SPY dropping below zero — currently the co-leadership regime has held, but a shift to US-only leadership would change the ex-US-specific narrative of this newsletter.

Third, ADX falling below 20 from a current strong-trend reading would signal a transition from trending to ranging, demanding a different tactical playbook (position sizing down, wider stops, waiting for a breakout rather than trend-following).

The ex-US bull that we’ve been tracking through this edition was born in a moment that, at the time, looked nothing like a beginning. October 2022 — the month VEU bottomed at 44, down 35% from its 2021 high. Sentiment surveys showed record bearishness on international equities.

The consensus view was that ex-US had underperformed structurally for over a decade and would continue to do so. Capital had been flowing into US indices for years on end. Nobody wanted to own Europe, Japan, or emerging markets.

That was the moment of maximum pessimism — Templeton’s born-on-pessimism phase — and it marked the low. What followed was three years of grinding, consolidating, and an often-doubted recovery that brought us to the current reading. VEU at 81 is no longer a contrarian trade. It is a trade with broadening participation, institutional flows, and published research pieces like this one.

That doesn’t make the bull wrong. What it does is mark where we are in Templeton’s sequence. We are still in the skepticism-to-optimism range — not euphoria, not yet. Sentiment hasn’t fully flipped. Most US-based portfolios remain structurally underweight ex-US. Allocation surveys show the rotation is underway but far from complete.

The danger zone is euphoria. The three-week synchronized rally, record highs in US indices, semiconductor ETFs at new highs, and this week’s Iran peace dividend have collectively pulled us closer to that zone. The market differentiates. Each company becomes two businesses: a disrupted legacy stream and a growing agentic stream. Sum-of-parts replaces blanket valuation.

Between Phase 2 and Phase 3, revenue growth held, guidance held, interest rates held, but the duration of discounting collapsed. Investors stopped projecting RARR over 10 years because AI makes the business model unforecastable beyond 3 years.

In a standard DCF at 15% discount rate, eliminating cashflows after year 3 reduces fair value by 40–60%, even with identical near-term earnings.

The transition into Phase 4 is the trade. The market stops asking “does SaaS survive?” and starts asking “how much of this company’s revenue is legacy, and how much is agentic?” That question requires decomposition, and decomposition creates dispersion.

The Valuation Decomposition

In Phase 4, most enterprise software company becomes two businesses with fundamentally different valuation characteristics. The legacy stream — seat-based licences, workflow tools replicable by agents, point solutions without data gravity — gets a short-duration DCF: 2–5x sales, 3-year visibility, contracting multiples.

The agentic stream — agent operating layer, API infrastructure, data gravity moats, usage-based pricing — gets a long-duration DCF: 12–20x sales, 8–10 year visibility, expanding multiples. The blended multiple is a sum-of-parts, and it shifts every quarter as the revenue mix evolves.

The three-layer valuation model

Standard analysis covers numerator (earnings) and denominator (rates). The third layer — DCF visibility horizon — explains why stocks collapse on good numbers. The fourth question — how to price agentic revenue — is what Phase 4 adds.

Legacy stream: the duration collapse
Earnings are fine. Rates are fine. But if the market can no longer project RARR beyond 3 years fair value drops 40–60%.

Three active conflicts have rewritten modern military doctrine in real time.

In Ukraine, Patriot intercept rates against modified Russian Iskander missiles dropped sharply as Russia adapted terminal-phase maneuver profiles. In the Middle East, Iran launched ballistic missiles at U.S. bases, forcing dozens of PAC-3 interceptors into action at $4 million per shot. In the Red Sea, Houthi drones costing a fraction of a single interceptor have disrupted global shipping for over a year.

The math is devastating: the U.S. Army’s interceptor stockpiles fell to roughly 25% of required levels by mid-2025. Washington responded by quadrupling planned PAC-3 procurement to nearly 14,000 missiles — a $40 billion replenishment bill. And that’s just the defensive side.

The offensive revolution is equally radical. A $20,000 Iranian Shahed drone can destroy infrastructure worth billions. Ukraine’s own drone programs have demonstrated that cheap, expendable autonomous systems can neutralize tanks, radar installations, and supply lines at a cost ratio that makes legacy platforms economically obsolete.

Despite the strong YTD, the sector has pulled back roughly -21% from mid-March highs. The secular thesis has not changed. The drawdown is technical, not fundamental.

The strongest sector of 2026 is not classic AI. It is autonomous defense. And the rearmament cycle is still in its early innings.

The Feb 28 intraday low of $63,068 held above the Feb 25 low of $60,187. That’s the first time since October 2025 that BTC absorbed a major shock without printing a lower low.

Why does this matter structurally?

Look at the chart. Since the all-time high at ~$128,000 in October 2025, Bitcoin has been tracing a WXY corrective pattern inside a descending channel:

- **(W)** bottomed near $78,000 — the initial impulse down
- **(X)** retraced to ~$105,000 — the relief rally that everyone mistook for a new bull run
- **(Y)** has been grinding lower since January, tagging the lower channel boundary near $60-63,000

The 0.883 Fibonacci retracement of the entire 2023-2025 bull run sits right in this zone. The descending channel’s lower boundary converges here. And now, the biggest exogenous shock of the cycle failed to push price through it.

Corrective patterns end when the final wave exhausts selling pressure. That’s what this price action looks like.

The data underneath

The Fear & Greed Index reads 14 — deep Extreme Fear. The last five readings at this level preceded meaningful bounces. Not guaranteed, but historically significant.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded over $1 billion in net inflows across three consecutive sessions last week, snapping a five-week outflow streak. Institutional money was already repositioning before the war headlines hit.

BTC dominance sits at 58.5%. The altcoin market is being destroyed — 87% of tokens down in the last 24 hours. When dominance is high and altcoins bleed, it typically means we’re in the capitulation phase where weak hands exit everything and strong hands accumulate the asset with the strongest liquidity.

Gold just printed $5,375. The rotation from “digital gold” to physical gold has been the defining macro trade of early 2026 — $16 billion into gold ETFs vs $4.5 billion out of BTC ETFs year-to-date. But that divergence is also what creates the eventual mean-reversion trade when the fear subsides.

What the signal says vs. what the structure says:

The signal says 38. Red. The systematic framework reads the current state of the market as broken — trend down, momentum negative, macro regime hostile.

But signals score the present. Structure anticipates the turn. And the structure says this corrective pattern is running out of room. The channel converges. The Fibonacci support holds. The war didn’t break it.

I’m not calling a bottom. The $60,000 level has been tested three times and a break below opens the door to $53-55K. Monday’s US equity open is the real test — ETF flows will determine whether this bounce has institutional backing or fades.

But the fact that the worst geopolitical weekend in years produced no new low at a major structural support zone? That’s the kind of non-event that matters.

1. The Great Divergence: Semis vs. Software
For months, we’ve seen an aggressive inverse correlation between the infrastructure providers (Semis) and the platform builders (Software). While Software has been hammered by "AI disruption" fears, we are finally seeing a temporary floor in the SaaS space. As the semi-trade becomes "crowded" and overextended, tactical capital is beginning to sniff for value in the battered software names that have reached deep-value territory.

2. The Shift to "HALO" Compounders
Perhaps the most significant development is the rotation into non-tech growth. We are seeing a move toward stable "compounders" with a technological edge—HALO stocks with an edge (Not traditional value stocks).
Investors are increasingly favoring high-quality industrials and essential services that offer "defensive growth." Look at the relative strength in:
Waste Management ($WM): The ultimate "moat" play with a hidden edge in RNG (Renewable Natural Gas) and automated logistics.
Linde ($LIN): While their FY26 guidance was prudent, the stock hit an ATH this week even as NVDA faltered. Their role in the hydrogen economy and industrial gas infrastructure provides a "green" alpha that the pure-play AI space lacks.
These are the "steady-hand" stocks that lead when the high-multiple tech names need to digest their gains.

3. The Roadmap to GTC 2026
Do not mistake this localized top for a trend reversal. The NVIDIA GTC Conference (March 16–19) remains the magnetic north for this market. I expect a period of "churn" and consolidation over the next few weeks as the "Rubin" trade resets.

We may see:
Side-ways price action in Semis to shake out late-cycle longs.
A "bid" in Industrials and Software as capital seeks safety and rotation.
The GTC Spark: A new run at the ATHs as Jensen Huang unveils the next stage of the physical AI roadmap in San Jose.

The Bottom Line: The bull is not dead; it’s just rotating. Respect the local top in semis, watch the floor in software, and keep an eye on the industrial compounders. They are the ones currently providing the "HALO" for this portfolio.

A technical review of the Bitcoin (BTC/USD) chart suggests that its severe cyclical correction may have reached structural exhaustion.

Following the peak near $126,500, Bitcoin has undergone a complex corrective phase. However, the price action now indicates the completion of a standard A-B-C corrective wave, characterized by a 5-3-5 subwave internal structure—a classic signature of trend exhaustion, with the final wave of selling fully played out.

The most critical development is where this sell-off has terminated so far. Price has established a pristine double bottom directly on the 61.8% macro Fibonacci retracement level at roughly $57,890. In technical analysis, this “Golden Ratio” is a high-probability zone for cyclical reversals.

Coupled with momentum oscillators like the RSI and Stochastic, and trendline support, a reset from deep oversold territory may soon cause mechanical selling pressure to evaporate.

For active allocators, a tactical long position at these levels is mathematically warranted, offering a clearly defined invalidation point below the double bottom and substantial upside as the market mean-reverts.

While US tech has been dwarfed/resized by AI in 2026, global markets have done much better.

For the better part of the last 15 years, global capital has been highly concentrated in U.S. equities. However, a technical and macroeconomic review of the Vanguard FTSE All-World ex-US ETF (VEU) indicates that a historic reallocation of global capital is now underway.

From a technical perspective, the most critical development on the long-term monthly chart is the decisive break above the 64.02 resistance level. This price point represents the absolute peak of the 2007/2008 pre-financial crisis market. By clearing this ceiling, VEU has completed a 15-year consolidation base, signaling the start of a secular uptrend.

Furthermore, the asset has broken above its uppermost of three primary ascending trendlines. Shifting out of a steady ascending channel into a steeper trajectory indicates an asset entering a momentum-driven markup phase fueled by institutional accumulation.

This technical resolution is supported by concrete macroeconomic fundamentals:

Valuation Normalization: The historic valuation premium of U.S. markets over the rest of the world has reached extremes. Capital is now seeking more attractive risk premiums and higher dividend yields in Europe, Japan, and Emerging Markets.

The U.S. Dollar Cycle: The sustained strength in unhedged international equities implies a structural softening of the U.S. Dollar, which mechanically eases global liquidity conditions.

Sector Composition: Unlike the technology-heavy U.S. indices, VEU is heavily weighted toward traditional sectors such as financials, industrials, materials, and energy. Outperformance here points to a global environment favoring physical infrastructure, supply chain reshoring, and commodity demand.

The data indicate that the era of exclusive U.S. market outperformance has concluded. Investors heavily concentrated in domestic markets should critically evaluate their geographic exposure for the coming cycle.

I expect the rise in ex-US stock markets to continue and accelerate in the months to come.
